New PC not connecting to the internet

Cjhalgmad

So I've plugged my Ethernet into a brand new PC and it's not connecting to it. I don't think it has anything to do with the PC not having an activated windows yet but I haven't bought windows yet so that might be the issue.

Thanks for the help.

Have you installed the ethernet drivers for the motherboard?

Use another PC and transfer them with a USB drive?

Yeah ok, but I didn't even think about Ethernet drivers. I thought that internet was just internet if you had an Ethernet port. thanks for the help

Ya Ethernet drives are the prob, you can get an older version off your MoBo installation DVD, then update them once your online. It's like the only purpose for the DVD anymore.

Windows should come with generic drivers built into the OS. it wont be optimum, but they should work.

from time to time, routers will need to be refreshed with various tables so that it knows what IP can be found on what MAC address. You could try that.

It's also possible that your IPv4 settings are set to static and that there is a mismatch in subnets. try setting your IPv4 to AUTO or DYNAMIC.

I've run wireless and Ethernet on unactivated windows, after the drivers you can always make sure the ethernet cord still works ;0 Maybe you could've bumped something out whilst building and changing computers.
