Port Forwarding?

hardtofindinthefuture

Hi, i wanted to host a minecraft game server, but my modem isnt working correctly, and when i goto "netstat" in CMD it says under the port of the server (35565) TIME_WAIT. What does this mean and can i resolve it?

hmm, I am not sure even though I host a minecraft server myself, what OS and ISP are you using and what router/gateway?

Yours faithfully

then either the modem/router is borked or the port forward rule wasn't properly created

I'll assume you meant the default port for minecraft, 25565. Try turning off the firewalls for the router and host, but make sure to re-enable them once you're done, try seeing if it works after you turn it off. You might have to put the host in the DMZ

Yours faithfully

As well as opening the port on your router, you will also have to open the port on windows firewall to the application.

Are you talking about your modem? Or do you mean you have a router between your PC and your modem?

Because if you have a separate router, both the router and the modem need to be port forwarded.

When you run it, is the server opened up before doing the test?

You need to make sure your router is port forwarding to the correct machine local ip address, and that the inbound port = outbound port (meaning WAN port whatever goes to LAN port whatever).  And like mentioned above, you need to make sure Windows Firewall is allowing that port.  Easiest way to test that is to just turn off Windows Firewall for a bit and see if it works.

Some ISPs block ports and there's nothing you can do on your end.

I have 8 or so port forwarding rules on my router right now running an HTTP server, FTP server, remote desktop, Teamspeak, etc.

Where did you set the static IP? On the router or on the box hosting the minecraft server?

You don't put static IPs on the router but on the box hosting the server. To get things back to normal you set it to get an IP address via DHCP.
