Hi,

My AX860i has gone faulty I am going to RMA it but it will take a while to get it sorted I need my PC so am going to buy a new one and then when the RMA comes back sell it on probably I don't want another corsair PSU as two have gone faulty on me this year so any recommendations would be great I want modular with decent cables not ketchup and mustard if you get what I mean :D. It needs to be enough power for my 5960X, GTX 1080 and 32gb ram I have one mechanical hdd and 2 ssd thats about it I don't have any of my parts overclocked.

Thanks

A G2 or something from Seasonic.

Between the G2 and GS? Not much, either would work.

GS is slightly smaller and I think a smidge quieter. There are a few technical differences but not enough to make one better then the other

The one's I can get are

EVGA GS 850watt or EVGA P2 750watt at the same price or the G3 850watt for like £30 more but I personally the others look better even though that doesn't really matter :D

Will P2 be better at the same price I know it's like 100watts less but I think it will still be enough for my system

I went with the EVGA P2 750 thanks for the advice the decider was the delivery time the GS would've been a couple days longer and I need it fairly quick and also 750watt should be plenty as I never plan on doing SLI again unless it really improves with compatibility but I can't see that happening xD

EVGA G2 6/750W would be best IMO.

Do not touch the Supernova NEX series. G2 is significantly better quality as it is from a better ODM.

I assume P2 is as good as G2 just platinum rated?

I didn't realise how bad these Corsair AX were I found a lot of people having the same issue of them randomly going off at any time

I just got an AX860, hoping I don't run into any of these issues. Just remember you only hear the stories from people who are complaining about an issue, not from people that have no problem with the product (i think this is reverse survivorship bias).

I wouldn't be so annoyed if it was just the 860 that went but the 860 was the replacement for my AX750 that died as well from a similar fault

You might be fine a lot of people have been but it is common you know now though that if your pc randomly goes off it most likely the PSU

I'm still trying to work out what the test button actually does if it looks for faults or just checks if the psu turns on

I don't have the i model, just the standard AX860. But from here and here looks like it checks that the psu is working:

ah you might be ok then it's the i model that has the shut down issue. I think the test just checks it turns on I don't think it puts any load on the PSU or different loads

I'm not sure that's even possible, for the PSU to put load on itself.

yeah so the self test thing is kind of pointless I could just jump the power supply with a 24-pin jumper to check if it turns on lol mine only has issues when the load fluctuates drastically it will just go off and the self test light goes red
