Not at CES. The only thing we saw today was a technology preview of the Vega architecture. Vega might get paper launched at Computex or at a separate event or basically whenever AMD feels like it.

But it wouldn't be "winning" for AMD even if their 480 were outselling the 1070, which it isn't. It is indeed far-fetched to think that's a plausible scenario.

So taking market share away from Nvidia isn't winning. I'd be interested in what your definition of winning is then.

Something doesn't seem right with all this Vega stuff... First, they show off a "trailer" where they clearly troll Nvidia and bash their upcoming Volta architecture but after this, we get extremely brief cherrypicked demos on Doom using Vulkan, not even maxed out, where the Vega chip gets a little more fps than a 1080. Why bash explicitely Volta if their top of the line Vega card doesn't compete with a Titan XP ? Maybe they're making an incredible leap forward in terms of perf/watt, but still, where's the raw performance we all want ? I want them to succeed soooo bad, I want to switch to AMD as soon as they can bring a real high end card to the table but man, this is just so disappointing. I really hope we'll see more and better soon.

Taking away market share is great. But I'm talking about profitability, the actual making money part. Nvidia makes so much more money on a 1070 than AMD does on a 480 that even if AMD were selling more of them, this would not be as significant as you apparently believe.

 

But they aren't, and won't be, selling more of them anyway.
