PNY GTX 1060??

hatrickboy09

Does anyone have any experience with PNY graphics cards? Thinking about getting a 1060 6GB since it's about $50 cheaper here than well known brands like EVGA or MSI. Any input would be helpful!

Well I don't know much but 1060 isn't really value for money.. If you want cheaper with same/better performance go to rx 480 and you won't regret it!

480 costs more than 1060 and performs on par. cheaper would be the 4gb and would do worse

Is it cheaper than these?

8GB RX 480 Red Devil Edition (includes free mouspad) and a $20 Rebate card making it $219!!!!!!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131694&cm_re=RX_480-_-14-131-694-_-Product

or an equally priced

8GB RX 480 Gigabyte Windforce Edition

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125912&cm_re=RX_480-_-14-125-912-_-Product

or this also equally priced

8GB MSI ARMOR Edition

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137078&cm_re=RX_480-_-14-137-078-_-Product

all for at or under $240 USD and should perform better than the 6GB GTX 1060.

cheers!

also found another 8GB RX 480 from XFX for the same $240

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150770&cm_re=RX_480-_-14-150-770-_-Product

but it is a blower card so ehh.

Is there a 6GB 1060 for $219 and a free mouse pad?

Most of the PNY cards are either refernece coolers, or blower style cards.

The MSI and Evga ones are $50 probabbly because they may be clocked higher, have better quieter aftermarket coolers, and other features like a 0dB mode, and most likely have better customer support and a longer warranty.

The MSI and Evga cards should perform roughly the same as the the PNY one though.

Lots of great feedback, I had completely forgot about going the 480 route. Unfortunately I got a gift from Best Buy and will only get store credit there :( so I can't shop around for the best card for the price. The good thing is they do price match from Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com, Newegg.com, and TigerDirect.com.

Selection from Best Buy is slim though. They only carry PNY, MSI, and EVGA 1060s and XFX 480. So I have to be selective :/

Also, is there a drawback in going with a reference design cooler instead of blower style? I've only had a blower so I just don't have experience with reference.

So if I were to be hiding my PC in a closet anyways I probably wouldn't realize how loud it is. correct?

Is it worth saving $10? or should I just bite the $10 for a blower?

Yes. You would not. But look up some reviews and user's feedback to see how loud it actually is.

But in a closet, no. I would save 10$
