Choosing a power supply

MyName13

I need a PSU that costs around 80$ for a PC with an i5 6400 and rx 470 (red devil), currently these are the power supplies I can find in local shops:

Corsair RM450

EVGA 500B/600B

Be quiet! straight power 10 400w

Seasonic S12II ; M12II EVO

Antec VPF450

Corsair CX450M (new cx series)

Corsair CX450M is great.

Same goes for EVGA.

You can't go wrong with any of those PSUs. Just get the one that will be delivered the sooner and cost less.

Intel i7 12700K | Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 | Pure Loop 240mm | G.Skill 3200MHz 32GB CL14 | CM V850 G2 | RTX 3070 Phoenix | Lian Li O11 Air mini

Samsung EVO 960 M.2 250GB | Samsung EVO 860 PRO 512GB | 4x Be Quiet! Silent Wings 140mm fans

WD My Cloud 4TB

Well, the CPU runs at about 65 watts and the GPU that you have listed runs at 120 watts. Depending on what you have in the rest of your build, a 450w power supply may be what you're looking for, or even a 500w-600w to make room for future upgrades.

Rig (OLD):

  • AMD Piledriver FX-6350 Six Core 3.90GHz Processor
  • 1TB Hard Drive
  • 120GB AFOX SSD
  • 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 960 2GB DDR5
  • Corsair SPEC-03 Blue LED Gaming PC Case
  • 450W Power Supply
  • Gigabyte AMD760G Chipset Motherboard

New Rig:

  • Intel core I5-6600K 3.5GHz Processor
  • 1TB HDD
  • 240GB Samsung SSD
  • 16GB 2333MHz DDR4 RAM
  • ICHILL Nvidia Geforce 980ti
  • 850W PSU

So none of them can damage hardware?

What's your budget for the full system build and have the parts been brought?

I'm not 100% sure for others that you mentioned, but EVGA and Corsair CX450M are great and will prevent damage to hardware.

I'd be tempted to go for the Corsair RM450. The Seasonic S12II/M12II and the Corsair CX450M aren't bad choices as well.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

All of them can potentially damage hardware if something goes wrong. That being said, they all have safety measures in place like any other decent modern psu that are supposed to prevent that damage to the system.

Any of the listed psus would work just fine.

I'd suggest planning the system as a whole as opposed to segregating the discussion.

The RM450 is the best, followed by the Straight Power 10 (I think), followed with the CX and M12 being about on-par (I'm partial to the Seasonic for full modularity as well as a ball bearing fan which is better than the sleeve bearing fan in the CXM), followed by the other shtuff.

I'd get the RM450.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.
