Gtx 1080 bottleneck on 1080p?

Will my gtx 1080 with i5 6500 bottleneck on 1080p?

I bought a prebuild gaming pc

I5 6500

Gtx 1080

Here is the link to the specs https://www.inet.se/produkt/1517093/taurus-experienced-gtx-1080#specs

Should i change it to an i7 6700K or i5 6600K?

i7 6700K for 370 USD

i5 6600K for 260 USD

Of course it will. In a vast majority of AAA titles.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION

yep 6500 is going to bottleneck at 1080p and probably 1440p to. Weird pre built though, normally they go high end cpu and mid ranged gpu, not the other way around.

Either get an i5 6600k or a GTX 1070/1060 to remove bottlenecks. You don't necessarily have to go this high end just to game at 1080p.

It is said that an Italian dies every time Spaghetti is broken.

That's why I break mine twice.

While I do not agree that you need gtx 1080 for 1080p 144hz, I don't think the bottleneck will bother you if you decide to keep the gpu.

every CPU you can think of will hold back a GTX 1080 at 1080p...it's an uptra powerful 700$ graphics device that is not meant for low resolution gaming.

that will hold it back too...what you need is to select a proper GPU for the resolution you play...1080p? get a gtx 1060 or a 1070 (1070 overkill for 1080p for now but will last longer) for 3440x1440 or 2560x1440 get a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 and for 4K get GTX 1080 SLI.

Not sure what planet you live on but 1080p is more CPU demanding than 1440p/4K, so pretty much yeah. Go and research a little.

So you think it's such a severe bottleneck that the card will run at 60% usage? Depends on the game too, not just the resolution.

Yeah, there are games when the card will run at 60%, Battlefield 1 would be a great example of such game, though it wouldn't be every game. Tomb Raider 2013 for instance almost doesn't use CPU at all...

Okey so if get an 1440p monitor and play on 1440p resolution.

would it work better?

it's not that 1080p is ''more CPU demanding'' it's that it's much LESS GPU demanding...

ohh yeah...defenetly...in many if not most games the GPU will be waiting for the CPU even if you have an overclocked i7-6950X...

The thing you guys have to realize before assuming that a modern latest gen CPU will NOT hold back a flagship modern day nvidia GPU is this:

Back in 2011 when intel had the sandy-bridge core i5-2500K and flagship core i7-2700K,  the top dog GPU at the time was the GTX 580...
That GPU for 1080p was the shit back then...but compared to modern GPU's it's still 20% slower than even a weak ass GTX 1050ti:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-580/3649vs3150

Meanwhile, AMD was pushing vishera and bulldozer and whateverroller piece of shit CPU out there to the market...so intel was rolling around in money doing NOTHING...so, the flagship CPU of 2016 is only 29% faster than the one from 2011
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-2700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-6700K/1985vs3502

So +29% on CPU...BUT...nvidia, didn't let go the potato and went full trottle...they made a GPU that is 300% faster than the 2011 flagship`during the same time span:
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-580-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/3150vs3603

That's why, today...high-end graphics solution have to be carefuly selected to match the resolution you need to render...and that's also why 144hz gamers need to tone down their expectations because in MANY if not MOST games, 144FPS is NOT something you can do...so get a gsync or a freesync monitor and enjoy 100FPS gaming because this is doable with a good CPU in most games and it's VERY enjoyable!

On that, have a good day!

(to OP: i do NOT recommend you upgrade your CPU or whatever...i would recommend you instead upgrade your MONITOR to something that will suit your GPU better like a 1440p 27'' monitor for example.)

I think there still will be a certain amount of bottlenecking, but im not sure by how much. Without any research and doublechecking I would lean towards 1070.

This combination is strange to me in a prebuilt machine.

A GTX 1060 6GB or a GTX 1070 8GB would make more sense for a build like this.

because the CPU cant work out the physics and logic faster then the GPU can produce a new frame so the GPU is waiting for the CPU all the time

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Eh, I reckon there'll be a slight bottleneck at 1440p for a good amount of AAA titles... but nothing to really fret about.

Usually people pair GTX 1070 with i7 6700k.

Yes it will bottleneck in some games, but you can also look at it more like GPU headroom :P
