Is there different physical sizes of DDR3 RAM?

Basically as the title states, I was wondering if there is different physical sizes of ddr3 ram.

Yes. There are SO-DIMMs and DIMMs.

DDR4 is 288-pin, DDR3 is 240-pin.

if you mean differences of physical heights and widths of identical spec ram than yes. different models of DDR3  have different sized heat sinks on them. the higher end models are significantly taller than the 'average' models. ram also comes in low profile models as well for fitting under large cpu coolers and such. 

in terms on non interchangeable sizes, there is desktop ram, and laptop ram (SODIMM), SODIMM is much shorter in width to fit in smaller spaces, but unless you are building a very special desktop, you dont need to worry about SODIMM.

ram also comes in different speeds. the faster clocked ram tends to have larger heat sinks to cope with the extra heat, and thus tend to be taller.

if you want to know if mobo-cpu cooler-ram sizes fit with each other, pc partpicker has a compatibility checker that for the most part will be able to help you see if a specific kit of ram will fit your setup.

No. ECC is independent of registered RAM.

You can find VLP (very low profile) ddr3 that is just shorter then locks on the slots. 

 The actual pcb is shortened compared to a tall heatspreader which with them off is just a regual sized dimm.
