My first 5960x was the same way.  Build like a tank.  My second 5960x is a lot better with lower voltages.

got some ln2 pots due in next few weeks to play with some dice , it will do 4.6@ 1.3 just needs massive jump for 4.9+ but when kept under 50 degrees will do more with less , is an es sample  so hoping it makes for a good ln2 chip , been up to 1.767v with no ill effects trying to get 5.2 stable enough for heaven lol

Here's my successful Superposition run with R9 290 @ 1400 MHz :P


CPU: i7 3970X @ 5.0 GHz
GPU: Gigabyte R9 290 (water cooled & modded bios)

GPU core: 1400 MHz (47.8 % OC from AMD stock 947 MHz)

GPU memory: 1650 MHz (MC tweaks, custom tighter strap timings and Vmem modded to 1.55 V in BIOS)
Avg FPS: 25.47
Score: 3405
