A10 or fx?

It depends on your country's prices but if you got an i3 rig then it would be better to just go for an i5 CPU.

No thanks. Currently have a prefab with crappy mobo and i3. If I'm buying a new mobo and cpu I'm going amd only. F Intel.

HP Omen 15,i7-8750h,16gb ddr4,256gb nvme,1tb 860evo,GTX1060 6gb. Hp case,i3-4130@3.40ghz,hp ipm87-mp motherboard, Evga gtx1050ti sc 4gb, 128gb sandisk ssd os, 1tb 860 evo storage,2tb external hard drive,2- 128gb flash drives,520w psu,Windows 10,42" monitor,2- 8gb sticks corsair vengeance pro ddr3 1866mhz ram.

It started out as a shitty prefab. Still shitty but better now. Lol.

I bought an FX6300 for the same price as a pissy i3, in fact is was cheaper as I got an SSD, mobo, RAM and CPU for the same price as an i3, board and half the RAM. Bonus being I see more cheap FX83xx's out there used than i5's, so cheaper upgrade path too as no-one really wants them :)

1. Wait for Zen Architecture.

2. Go for an Intel i5 of some sort.

3. Get the FX CPU.

- AMD's APUs are horribly dated now. I still run an A8-7600, and it's a pretty bad bottleneck. Sure it's cheap, but that's all it it, and when gaming with a competent GPU it *feels* cheap.

- Take these things from someone who chose AMD at the outset because they were affordable, and 3 years later regrets it.

To all who suggested Intel cpus. I am not going Intel and will never buy Intel. I might however wait for zen but I am more leaning to the 2 options and only those 2 options I stated in my original post. Thanks anyway.

huhhh...just to make sure...you do realize that just droping this 170$ core i5 into your existing motherboard from your pre-built machine would anihilate ANYTHING AMD has on the market right now when it comes to CPU's right?

I am either going to wait for zen or go with one of the two choices I mentioned in the first post. No Intel no Intel no Intel no Intel no Intel. How many times must I mention no Intel? I am going amd period. Did I mention no Intel?

Well, you are only harming yourself in the process. Wait to see what zen brings. either of the other choices are bad for you since your bang for your buck will be low.

Just wait for Zen. It's out next year. That's too close to make another mistake. At least if you know Zen is not that good, at least you can still go back to your original plan.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

Zen, and even the APUs based on Excavator already announced for the  AM4 platform, use DDR4. I don't know if some backward compatibility will be present, as some intel boards have for DDR3L (but not other DDR3), but I wouldn't count on it.
