Your Thoughts on a Xeon Gaming PC?

So I am going to buy myself a nice Xeon E3-1220 v5, for gaming, video editing, and graphic designing. I also am purchasing a Asus E3 Pro Gaming V5 motherboard that supports DDR4 memory. I am pairing this with 16GB's of ram and a EVGA GTX 960 4Gb SSC Graphics card. Will I be bottlenecked at all while gaming or no?

I haven't used one myself for gaming, but I have seen a lot of people on the forums swearing by them given their cost to the equivalent i5 or i7. (just look up xeon and gaming on the forum)

When in doubt, re-format.

The build in your sig is good, why bother changing. That Xeon does not even have HT

I use a 1231v3 and I've never had any bottleneck issues on my 970, only thing I miss is the iGPU on the Core series for streaming using QuickSync.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

The E3-1220 v5 doesn't really make sense because of the lack of Hyperthreading, for around $20-$40 more you can get a 6600k and a z170 board the will be a lot better for gaming and even editing because of the higher clock speed.

Might as well get the 6500, or as @johnny5c said, the 6600k.

It's only $10 more for more power, and a more standard motherboard.

I don't think it'd give you a great deal more performance, but a bit for sure.

The Xeon you have lacks a iGPU, others have it at a additional cost and they're workstation grade ones, not the igpu found in core series.

Yeah, that's why I said I sometimes miss it because I can't use QuickSync without it.

2nd PC is for editing and gaming? Then was is the purpose of the first one in your sig?

For content creation, get a X99 with a 6800K. Xeon side there is not too much on it. E5 1600 v4 for faster core clock. E5 2600 v4, slower core clock, supports dual sockets.

A E3-1231 v3 would still be a good option, 8 threads @3.8GHz for around the same price.
