Truenas scale

Hi everyone.

I need your help.

I have a truenas scale machine it based on a thinkstation S30 with upgraded parts.

I bought SAS drives (6TB, 12 Gbps ,128 mb cache) by mistake and i remember there is a problem connecting SAS drives to sata controllers.

Any suggestions?

Return them and buy SATA drives.

Or shell out for an HBA and SAS cables.

You can put a 12gbit hba in that workstation. Also 12gbit drives work fine on a 6gbit hba, ive done it many times.

Only by having an optional HBA card could this Thinkstation support SAS drives, as described in Lenovo's documentation.

How did you set up and configure Tailscale? By default, IP addresses in the forms of 100.x.x.x are the only way for endpoints in the same Tailnet to communicate, and they can be inspected either via Web admin pages or via tailscale status. If their original Ethernet addresses are preferred, you may need to set up subnet routers.

Yes, LSI HBAs are well supported in TrueNAS. However, since you have returned those SAS drives, the introduction of HBA would be of limited value, unless future additions of a couple hard drives have been planned. Up to 7 SATA drives are supported natively by this Thinkstation, per documentation above.

I have a question if I’m not mistaken I will need LSI in IT mode?

Correct. You don't want hardware RAID virtual drive magic between your physical hard drives and ZFS.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

gonna sound wired! But you might run in to this !

i just installed an HBA and built a truenas box!

I needed to apply tape to the 3.3v pin for my SAS drives to fire up!  Took me a bit for troubleshooting and junk to find the solution!
