Hi Guys

Im a lazy sod so cannot be bothered to take out my motherboard to install a cooler on my i7 6700. does anyone know of any coolers that would quiet with my cpu under load but not need a back-plate.

Just skip thermal paste, and hot glue a cooler right onto the cpu.

Well, check to see if your case has a CPU cutout. Otherwise, I REALLY recommend a cooler with a backplate. It won't warp your motherboard or cause any stress that way. Hard to beat the Hyper 212 EVO

There are a few coolers out there that use Intel's godawful pushpin retention system. If you really have the i7-6700 and not the i7-6700K, then you can find a cooler that should cool it a lot better than stock.

yep it's the 6700. only trying to make my system quieter, I have a reference AMD card so I clearly don't care about thermalsxD

Most cases have a cut out on the back of the motherboard so you can get to the back of the cpu easily, it also saves you from taking the mobo out.

It's pricier than I'd like, but Cooler Master has a mini EVO 212 called the TX3 that uses Intel's pushpin retention: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UB4XB9466

I'm sure there are others, but this should easily keep the the i7-6700 cool.

EDIT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064

I think that's one from Newegg themselves and it looks like it uses the pushpin design.

All decent coolers require a backplate unless you are on X99 which has a built in backplate.

Stop being lazy? :P

Problem with bigger push-pin coolers is that you need them to be under max weight limit for mobo. Otherwise any issues that come with cooler will not be covered by warranty.

They're 120mm coolers with only a single fin array. Fairly light. Not a problem for average boards.

Its not like we're putting a NHD15 on push pins here.

The Spectre should have a cutout in the motherboard tray for installing coolers without removing the motherboard. Is that not the case?
