IMO I think ghosts are kinda real, in the sense that I believe in them but people probably make a lot of fake ghost sightings to get famous.

My belief in ghosts is akin to my belief in fairies and unicorns.

I feel quite certain in there non-existence.

To my knowledge ghosts haven't been demonstrated to exist in any tangible way.

I'm sorry, but fuzzy camera footage and terrible "EVP" recordings aren't going to cut it.

Sometimes at night in the Aussie bush, you can hear an inhumane screeching growl, which repeats itself most of the night. If you look around the noise vanishes, if you cover back up in your swag the noise comes back. Almost nightly this phenomenon plagues people camping in the bush, and the first Europeans in Australia thought it was a monster or ghost.

Well it's not anything weird, it's just Koalas having sex.  Good for scaring tourists.

Where's the "zero" option?

Ghosts don't exist. End of argument.

You can make an argument that somewhere aliens exist due to the vastness of the universe, but ghosts, ghosts are bullshit.

To quote Ghost Adventures: "There are things in this world that we will never fully understand..." I tend to agree with you, however people have "experiences" and are not on cable every week. There must be some truth to it, of course we won't know till we actually, you know cross over to that world... and it appears to be hard for these spirits (if they do exist) to show themselves on cue.

How exactly do we distinguish between things we don't understand and things that don't exist?

If a ghost can have an effect on the natural world, that effect can be measured, quantified and used as evidence to support the existence of ghosts.

And if ghosts can't effect the natural world, then we have no reason to assume they exist.

Also, why should we assume that ghosts are the truth behind these phenomena?

Jumping to the conclusion that ghosts caused something is the same as just saying "magic did it".

It might be true, but it seems very unlikely and the naturalistic explanation usually has a lot more proof behind it.

Why would you not include the correct answer: 0

Because 1 is pretty much 0.

1 is not 0. 1 implies that you believe in ghosts at least a tiny bit. 0 implies that you do not believe in them at all. 1 is still some degree of belief, 0 is none.

No: 1 implies you still believe but only a tiny little bit. I do not hold such position as nobody has every offered conclusive evidence to assume ghosts or an afterlife exists, hence 0 or absolutely no reason to assume ghost exist should be an option, not just 1.

i put 5.

I believe that 99% of the time someone thinks they encountered a ghostly presence it's actually something physical that could be explained with simple deduction and logic.

However i do believe in the possibility that people may experienced something quite real that they mistake for ghosts, but current science has yet to observe.

something akin to a 4th dimensional being or some other sort of phenomenon interacting with our 3D plane of existence.

For those of you who watched stargate SG-1 it would be like that episode where once they touched an ancient artifact people could start seeing large bug like creatures that could pass through solid objects.  This isn't where i got this belief, but it does provide a visual explanation.

Humans are just instinctively scared of the unknown. It is a primal survival instinct. Even though a threat might not exist, always assuming it does has been the best means of survival. You know the rustle in the bushes might just be the wind, but assuming it's a bear never hurts. If it is and you assume it's the wind, you might just die. We also fear the dark for the same reason and humans are easily suggestible to such fears. Remembering Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark, encapsulates this so perfectly :D

i always think rustling bushes and things in the dark are kidnappers is that weird?

I lurk a lot

What kind of experiences ? I'm curious.

In my own home, I get feelings of being touched on the back and shoulders out of nowhere. Finding things out of place, lights turned on or off when they shouldn't be.Things moving on their own. Sometimes my dog will just get out of bed, run to the hallway and start barking at nothing (nothing that I can see anyway).

Once the camera on my phone stopped working out of the blue, I took it apart and tried fixing it, I put it on my desk, just above my keyboard and no joke, I saw it fly straight off my desk and hit the floor, absolutely destroyed the camera and it had to be replaced.

One night I was watching friends house while he and his wife were on vacation; I went to bed and as I was on my phone reading stuff on LTT, I hear these 3 HUGE thumps right at the bedroom door on the ground. It sounded like heavy stomping.

I haven't actually 'seen' any ghosts but the night my great grandfather died, my sister and my mother spotted a black silhouette floating outside the hospital window, and the night my great grandmother died, both my sisters saw a glowing ball of light outside.

In all honesty I should've voted 9, because I am open to absolutely any reason other than paranormal activity for these strange occurrences, but I don't know how someone could explain what happened with my phone.
