Plastidip RAM PCBs?

what do you guys think of a quite spray over the tops of my RAM dims with some plastidip? green PCBs look like puke. 

 

 

 

 

it would be the sides and top. only where green is exposed everything else will be taped off.

If it's non conductive then sure, I've seen dudes spray paint motherboards without issue.

 

Then you could get a razor or retractable blade and cut the paint from the chips and put a heatsink back on?

 

i was thinking of covering the chips and 240pin with masking tape then painting.

I really dont want to kill my RAM...a color change is not worth $160...

Do you mean the heat spreader? Then yes. The PCB I would not do that.

I'm not 100 percent if it's non conductive or not, But I know it's possible to paint a PCB if the paint is non conductive.

 

Plastidip is not conductive. It is insulating though. Im not too worried about my RAM overheating though

Overheating shouldn't be an issue unless your running 2133Mhz ram or over, if your running 1600Mhz then it's more than fine

 

Definitely at 1600 with no need or will to oc. 

 

I'm going to try it out later this week. I have plenty of parts (mobo heatsinks) that need some coats also.

Not a problem as long as the PCB finger edge is kept free of paint.

I have seen whole motherboards gettng plastidipped so RAM should not be an issue.

I wouldn't myself. Something about plasti dip on electronics just screams disaster in the making.

I'd be more worried for the electronics before the paint. From the videos I've seen, plastidip'd exhaust tips have survived the heat so I'm sure whatever ram puts out would be nothing. The electronics risk still wouldn't be worth it to me.

@whatthe_fuzz I wouldn't use any kind of spray on electronic components. Its a great way to build up static electricity

mainly because you are using the aiduster when all the components in the PC are grounded and in the case. To paint the ram you would be isolating it from a ground which will then let static build up. There is also the fact that with paint you are dealing with many more particles than with an air duster

 You could use plastidip, but I would not use the spray plastidip. The accelerants in spray paints is slightly conductive. You could paint on with a brush some of the normal plastidip and that is fine to use with electronics.

Why? the spray works just fine on components....

I'd pull off the heatsinks and tape over the chips and interface. Spray'em  and put the heatsinks back on. I've sprayed PCBs with Krylon and Plastidip and haven't had issues...

If you are unsure, check the conductivity with a multimeter. If it beeps, it's bad!
