Why people say that a GTX1060 is enough for 1080p 60hz?

RRGT19

Hi,

I hace since today a GTX1060 6GB and I can not use max settings on The Witcher 3, Syndicate, GTA V, etc... 60hz stable.

I need to turn off a lot of settings to get that.

I7-6700

16GB

asus z170i pro gaming

maybe for users that don't mind to play at HIGH, but for VERY ULTRA I think we need a GTX1070.

Try turning everything to max and turn Anti-Aliasing to X2, That should give you 60 FPS in all games.

My new Gaming PC.

If your expectations aren't bloated or whatever you want to call it, then it is indeed a very good 1080p card.

I'm going to guess you have SSAA enabled to max, which means your essentially rendering at a min of 1440p if not higher depending on what factor the max setting is, including an inefficient AA in the mix makes any card under perform and most games have alternative AA options

(this is why AA settings are mentioned separately in benchmarks that say 1080 ultra or max)

That is true to an extent as the 1060 is plus/minus the performance of a 980 which is still no slouch today as it was the flagship of its time.

The point of PC gaming is the ability to tweak settings to achieve the graphical fidelity and frames. Not everyone is going to play the newest AAA title, the 1060 achieves good framerates at a high quality for today. The 1070 is catered to 1440p not 1080 unless you are going 120Hz. Do remember that the 1070 is similar to a Titan X.

Damn it, you're right. I'm going to the corner now with my 7950 that likes 1080p and 1440p equally. :P

just don't use the supersampling options and use a reasonable level of anti-aliasing and you'll get easily 60 FPS.

I have in the games, some at HBO+ and others at SMSAA 4x and others on 8x.

Why AA is so important?, if I turn this off we can see things with blur or not a perfect and clear imagen.

That is not the point of AA, to see things cool?.

AA is only present to correct a glitch in digital signals, nothing more the reason why it's important is that the more intensive AA settings are equivalent to rendering at higher resolutions in terms of how demanding it is.

X2 AA is good enough when every thing else is maxed out, I think you will find it VERY hard to tell the difference between 2X and 8X....

Got it, so for 1080p should I use what?.. the lowest AA possible, FXAA, or MSAA 2x?.

Anti-aliasing is to smooth out the rough edges...but at some point, depending on your resolution, you'll just spend too much processing horsepower on it...usually 2xMSAA is more than enough, but if you can use some more efficient type of anti-aliasing (TXAA, FXAA...) sometimes they will give very good results with a very minimal performance hit depending on the game...you have to test them out to see what suit you well in terms of image quality vs. performance hit,

MSAA 2x should be good, if the games support it as their are some that only support resolution SS, if you don't see jagged edges on curved/diagnal objects then whatever AA you are using is enough, if you still see jaggs than it's too low, not an exact science answer I know but it's a visual effect so their is no exact answer unfortunately

uhhh the GTX 1060 should definitely be able to max out GTA 5 at 60 fps @ 1080P. Unless you're talking about the advanced options (like extra draw distance, shadow distance etc) which kill the performance on any system because they're ridiculously demanding settings

well you're kinda fucked with your expectations then. those settings destroy even my friend's performance and he has a 5960X and SLI 980s lol
