Installed new GPU, now monitor won't show anything

Crafting
Go to solution Solved by Visordo,

Some interesting reading about the topic. I cannot confirm nor the deny the findings, because I have not personally tested myself. But it looks a lot like your scenario.

http://www.overclock.net/a/the-final-answer-to-the-controversial-pcie-x16-version-compatibility

They recommend a Motherboard update if there are any for your specific Motherboard.

So I installed my primary GPU in my secondary system, but the system won't show anything on the screen anymore with the new GPU

The motherboard has no integrated GPU-output, so I can't go that route.

The monitor won't show anything at all.

The system is functioning correctly with the old GPU, and the problems is only when the GPU is changed.

The new GPU WORKS I had it in my primary system.

Power is connected, and the drivers for the GPU is on one of the disks.

The power supply is sufficient and everything else there.

I can't go into bios and do anything, because the monitor doesn't display anything at all, so that's not a possibility.

CPU: I7-2600

GPU: GTX 8600GS (old one)

GPU: AMD HD7870 (new one with problems)

MOBO: Random one with the correct socket

RAM: Normal ram...

ETC...

I hope someone can help me, thank you in advance!

I tried that already, I'll do it again right away to double check.

Check what? The PC works perfect with the old GPU if that's what you're asking?

Do you have a high enough wattage power supply in your rig?

and do you have the possibility to run both cards at the same time?

just so you can see if the card is shown in windows or not shown at all>>

The old GPU recieves power over the PCI-E slot (the 7870 has 2*6pin power), which is PCI 1Gen if that's important.

The fans are spinning yes.

It shouldn't be a problem, it's in my primary system, and it has never misbehaved or been faulty.

So putting it in a different system, shouldn't make it the broken link

It's 700W, plenty for this :)

The motherboard only supports 1 PCI-E lane, so im afraid not.

I'm not so sure about that. It might still be a problem but only sometimes.

If you can test with a different PSU, that is something worth doing.

PCI express version on the Motherboard? I know that some AMD cards PCIe 3.0 are not fully backwards compatible with older version of standard.

Im pretty sure the MOBO is PCI-E 1Gen, and the AMD GPU is 3.0 Yes, might be the problem there?

In general they should yes, although researching about it exposes certain vendors or GPU's that doesn't support less then 2.0, at least officially.

It could be. I have read from time to time that this is an Issue. Aparently Nvidia cards do not have this problem. I don't know if newer AMD cards have fixed this. I had and old system I wanted to put a Video Card on and I decided at the end for an Nvidia card because I read that I could run on compatibility issues.

Ah, hmm. Maybe that's what that is? Only way to find out is to contact the manufacturer.

Yes newer Nvidia cards work in PCI-E Gen1. I tested a GTX 970 in the system, and it worked perfectly.
