UK Prices in comparison to US prices for a PC build

BritScout

Hello, I'd just like to ask everybody who might be able to answer my question, why does it cost so much to build a computer in the UK?

I have a part list set up on pcpartpicker.com, and the price for said part list is £917, or $1216. However if I lived in the US, this part list (not including the monitor) would cost just £652, or $865. Can anyone explain to me why this is the case? I think it is quite unfair that I should have to pay £300 more than a US resident.

If you're thinking 'why doesn't he/she just buy the parts from the US and get them shipped?' That is also more expensive.

P.S if I'm posting this in the wrong place please tell me, I'm new here.

This is the part list, if you have any reccomendations please inform me.

Thank you in advance.

I think it is because of import taxes, which might up the price a bit.

Inflation and overseas rates and taxation of the country you reside in. Everything is cheaper in America, especially here in Oregon where we have no sales tax (although it's expensive as shit to live here nowadays).

for your parts list, you do not need a Z170 board just saying ;)

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

Thanks for the help. I still think it's unfair though that I should have to spend more than someone in the US.

Yeah I know, the only reason I have that board is because it's more aesthetically pleasing ;). Thanks though

That build is ~$1,600 in US

~1340 GBP in UK = $1790

Not as bad as you said, but still $190 in difference.

I did mention I'm not including the monitor, but thanks for reading anyway!

Here's a more "watered down" version of your build.

I took out the CPU fan because the one that came with the i5 is good enough. (don't mention quiet too) Also turned the Z170 into a cooler B150 board.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that and I will probably use that. Also I did have that cooler because it was more aesthetically pleasing.

20% sales tax/VAT, 40%+ salary tax for someone who earns a "good amount", council tax which isn't too bad as we are paying water, rubbish collection, sewage ect so...if you never get ill then US/Canada it iz and if you get ill a lot then UK it tiz :D

True true but at the same time, he is comparing prices between the US and UK so...it's kinda going off topic but at the same time, it's kinda explaining to him why the prices in the US are cheaper :D

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.
