Well you can just run an emulator on your phone and hook it up to your TV with a controller

so other than it looking cool, its nothing special

It is difficult to say, because for example, Tetris is owned by EA today. They might not like the price they are getting, or simply don't want to sale it at all.

We don't know how those agreement were done back then, and what happened over the years.

Mixed with that, you have what Nintendo cares about selling. If they think that the games will not be enjoyable to the masses, they might not want to sale it. Or they really want to make maximum amount of money out of them through Virtual Console.

Correct, but assuming you care about less than half of them, it is still cheaper than buying them on Nintendo Virtual Console.

Plus, you get to play with the original controller, AND on top of that, is that if you have a WiiU, you can plug this original NES controller to it, and play other purchased NES games on the system.

Pity the controllers are not USB.

Would be nice to have a good quality USB NES controller for the PC.

EA owns Tetris?! Please say it isn't so! I don't want my beloved game being riddled with microtransactions and TetrisLog! Please don't make me watch it become a yearly release with Beta quality. Please... EA... Don't destroy childhoods.

Sorry, the Tetris Company (which is owned in part by Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov), owns Tetris trademark, my mistake.

But EA is the only one that makes modern Tetris games (like official Tetris games). So, I don't know the exact arrangement of the deal, like if EA has exclusive rights or not. And the whole Tetris story (who owns what) was a mess for Nintendo. I don't think Nintendo wants to go into it again.

Still think the only reason they're doing this is to get rid of their B-Stock of NES boards (which they apparently have a ton of). I do wish more games could be loaded (also wish it had the multitap adapter built in), and that the unit itself didn't use the WiiMote accessory port as the controller port. Although I feel that it would be good for those that have a big NES collection on their Wii or Wii U and could now use the controllers being sold for these with that.

LOL! Except the NES board is much larger than the device they are selling.

But yes, I do wish they were more games on it, at least have an expansion port where they can sell another 30-60 game pack for it, or a store selling the games at the same price as the the Wii/WiiU so 5$ each.

The port change for the controller is that so that it works with the WiiU NES virtual console games, as you mentioned. They probably have a lot of port connectors, so they use that. I think it would be too costly to make the old port again (because you have to do the mold, production tests, then you need to have the connector controller as the whole thing doesn't work the same way as before)... plus you'll have many accessories from the NES days not work on it due to the TV technology change, and perhaps due to system internals changes. I mean it is possible, of course, but I think Nintendo has expectations of sales, and profit, so if they spend more money for all this, it hurts their bottom line, or needs to increase the price, and that will be perhaps less tempting. I think their goal was to price is as the price of 1 game.

LOL wut?

and locking it to only 30 games is pretty dumb, but then I think Nintendo is treating this product as a cash grab with nostalgia rather than a long term product.

You connect it via your TV USB port, or those generic power adapter for USB ports for phones.
