Makes me wonder at how much better BW-E samples will be a year from now.

I'm wondering the exact same thing.  I already gave two a spin and they just weren't cutting it for me.  Hopefully they follow Haswell-E's lead, but at a faster rate.

I mean early samples could barely hit 4.5 at all, samples about a year ago hit 4.5 @ 1.35 V consistently, samples from 6 months ago I heard were a shoe-in for 4.5@1.3 and perhaps even better if 4.8@1.3 has been done (even if only on cinebench).

Also, really sad you didn't like them. I was hoping I could buy off your 5960x for cheap remember?

Yea, I mean GM200 samples also showed that significant improvements in breaking through the 1520 Mhz wall with later asic's (and later pcb/bios revisions). I would expect the smaller nodes with worse yields have even more room to improve on functional samples.

I do remember.

At the end of the day it boiled down to performance at max overclock and 8 overclocked cores from my 5960x beat out 8 overclocked cores from the 6950x.  Undoubtedly, the 6950x with all 10 cores firing in an optimized multi threaded application picked on my 5960x quite a bit.  I was looking for a reason to keep the 6950x, but after comparing both with the same number of cores, I felt a bit let down.

If clock speeds improve on later batches, I'm game to try it again.  No doubt that at the same clock speed Broadwell-E is stronger than Haswell-E.

I love how much Intel's HW-E silicon improved since launch... Makes me wonder at how much better BW-E samples will be a year from now.

Batch no: L540C190

So 40th week of 2015 :)

I imagine that Amazon would have very recent processors. Or maybe even very old ones :D

Yea, that makes sense. Haswell-E overclocking improved sooo much after launch...

I should check mine sometime (bought in august 2015 so probably a early 2015 part).
