AMD or Intel processor for BF4 build (ultra)

I said about 3970x, but even so, 3930k has 7 fps difference in avg. fps. It's quite a big number in gaming. Anyway, let author of post decides what's the best for him

I avoided that, actually. The OP stated no to extreme 1k+ edition CPUs so I based everything off the second highest. :P

Shoot, an i7 2600K is still a viable chip. Probably why Slick still runs one.

The difference between an AMD 8350 and an Intel i7 3930k is only 7

AMD price as of this post on Newegg: $199.99

Intel price as of this post on Newegg: $569.99

Cost difference: $370

7 extra FPS is not worth $370.

And these are stock speeds. Plenty of people run an 8350 around 4.6Ghz.

If we ignore generation, brand loyalty, clock speeds and focus on value per dollar, there is no reason why you shouldn't get an 8350 and use the extra cash to invest in more power GPUs. That is what is going to be doing the bulk of the rendering anyway.

i totally agree i7 is better but 8350 is cheaper as well compared to an i5

i would go for 8350 if its an budget build !! :ur getting more performance for ur buck

if not go for intel

but yeah don't even think about 9350 they suck  i would rather use an pentium 4 ...

It's not a budget. My price range is around 1-300 maybe stretch it up to 400 but I'm asking what would be better for a game like BF4. Would FX win out because Mantle utilises all their cores or i7s because they are naturally more powerful.

It matters but not enough to pay 350 bucks for it.

AMD - Mantle period he asked what CPU for BF4 Get the 8350 it will have mantle support and will destroy with mantle the 8350 is cheaper then the i7 but gives a good run for its money and Ive been very impressed with my 8350. Pick up a good cooler with it if you plan on overclocking and if you don't grab a hyper 212 because the stock cooler sounds like a jet plane is taking off in your room.

3770K/4770K!

don't buy amd cpus. They are weak comparing to i7s. Here, check this benchmarks:

EnxK4GD.jpg

As you see i7s outperform amd cpus

I kind of doubt those numbers, since I have a stock FX8350 with dual 7870 (1100mhz core and 1300mhz vram) I have 60FPS all the time on that game and that is only because i have V-sync ON I play on ultra, on a 1080p monitor (60hz).

what I mean is those 60FPS is what I allow my computer to display Im sure it can deliver some more, but I don't like screen tearing so V-syn on.

Here are the BETA benchmarks, the AMD CPUs outperform their intel counterparts in every price segment.
I see no reason to go for Intel especially considering the significantly higher price you'd have to pay.

Activision announced that its future PC games including the upcoming call of duty will also support mantle.
Upcoming Ubisoft games including Watchdogs will also be optimized for the 8 core AMD CPUs.

Looks like AMD is slowly closing the distance on Intel.

Looks like AMD is slowly closing the distance on Intel.

The only reason why the AMD CPUs performed poorly in the past is because games don't support multiple cores very well & most of the CPU's performance goes unused.

Now that's changing because of the next-gen consoles, both of which have 8 core AMD CPUs.

Architecturally speaking, Intel is NOT ahead of AMD, because even though an Intel core is faster than an AMD core, it's twice as large and even though it's twice as large, it's not nearly twice as fast.

That's why an Intel core should be compared to an AMD Module (Dual core) & not core for core.

If you're interested you can read more about this (architectural comparison) here :

This is a pretty good question seeing as apparently bf4 is "multicore optimized" and AMD offers more cores but intel is still architecturaly faster.

well i personally dont think its been optimized yet....

not at all, FX 8350 is far from anything good, the only reason I recommend it is because of it's price point

yes, but as you see, they fail at i7's.

they are at different price points, hence you can't exactly compare to and to together

I would definatly not get a 8350, I have one now and im upgrading to a 4770k. Its a huuuuge bottleneck on my crossfire 7970s. On bf3 a friend with one 7970 gets better fps then me with a 3570k. Intell is so much better for gaming

It's either AMD 8 cores or Intel 6 cores :P

8350 or 3930k IMO

Never owned an amd cpu but from what ive read, intel still blows away amd in over all performance.

I would get an 8320 with a M5A99X EVO R2.0 and overclock it.

I'm going to ask something no one has bothered to ask. What is the total budget for both CPU AND Motherboard? This can be a key factor on deciding which platform to go with.

I don't know how Intel architecture is built, but it's unbelievable, AMD's FX-9590 which has 8 real cores and is 5ghz cpu, has almost the same score as Intel's 3930k which is 6 core cpu with 3.5ghz. Intel makes some magic architecture. They're awesome! AMD tries to push with high GHZs and more cores, which also requires more power, but they barely reach Intel if not fail... Good job Intel, true cpu leader.
