980 Ti vs GTX 1070

I might be looking for a new graphics card in a few months or so. I'm thinking about either the 980 Ti or the GTX 1070. They cost about the same, but the 980 Ti has slightly better performance. But, the 1070 is newer and may have other benefits that I haven't thought of. Which one should I go for? Keep in mind that what is in stock currently does not matter, I will buy the card later. Is there an equivalent AMD card that has a better value in that price range? Thanks.

I'd go for 1070 simply because it's newer and supports a few cool technologies that might be useful. Only go for 980 Ti if you can find a great deal, cheaper than 1070.

I think the GTX 1070 will be better since it will take priority in driver development.

And its consumes less power bla bla bla architectural improvement stuff.

And HOPEFULLY the GTX 1070 falls down in price a bit since it's MSRP is 379$

the 1070 performs the same or better, has newer drivers, newer features only available on the GTX1000 series, will have longer driver support, runs cooler and quieter, uses less power, has a higher resale value, and no AMD GPU matches it atm

Right now GTX 1070 might perform up to 10% worse than GTX 980 Ti. But just in few games ... mostly GTX 1070 is on pair with GTX 980 Ti right now.

But keep in mind that GTX 1070 is new card, so there will be plenty drivers updates and optimisations, that will increase overall performance.

Meanwhile GTX 980 Ti, hit the wall with optimisations. It's optimised as far as it can be, so no more performance will come out of it.

So after 6 months or 1 year, GTX 1070 will be around 10-15% better than GTX 980 Ti in all games.

Keep in mind that GTX 1070 also have more VRAM and uses less power.

If it costs you the same, it would be dumb to go for 980 Ti right now.

It would be dumb to buy any new card right now. Period. They are WAY overpriced because they just released and people are buying them up right away. Wait until prices come down.
