AMD once again violating power specifications? (AMD RX-480)

Majestic

Gamers Nexus should have aftermarket (frankenstein V1) cooling on their 480 soon.  They will push the clocks hopefully... maybe even blow up their test bench.

My question is, would this be ok for my system, (If they ever fix it) for me to swap out my 360x for this new card, I don't wanna have to buy a whole new system.

your CPU will bottleneck it.

wow, thx, ive been saying that about the Intel stock cooler for nearly 2 years. fucking piece of atrocious shit. Terrible for what it is, Terrible in every way. But nooo. Its perfect because Intel put a fan with a Intel sticker on it.

Nvidia's Pascal... I don't recommend those reference either, but they don't ask for as much power over rated spec as the 480.

6-pin, shitty cooler and a card that likes wattage (166W is what I have seen in a few benches), bad decisions were made.  I still wait for more real tests regarding the 480's limitations.  I like the card's potential.

I know that, I was kinda hoping to maybe get a decent skylake system but I am just trying to see what is available now.

I think the card will be a killer in its aftermarket versions. Like I suspect a version which could be closer to a 390X with a good cooler, better power supply through an 8pin connector and a somewhat decent overclock. Because let's face it, the overclocking possibilities seen right now are a bit underestimated probably because the card can't draw much more power.

Does anyone know when they will an ounce when they will launch aftermarket ones?

Get the best GPU within your budget.  Deal with bottlenecks as they come.

A i5 6600or 6600k with the sapphire rx 480 nitro should make a fairly balanced system.

After firing all their human labour and replacing with robots on the assembly line, Asus can probably afford to decorate their cards like Time Square christmas trees.

R9 3900XT | Tomahawk B550 | Ventus OC RTX 3090 | Photon 1050W | 32GB DDR4 | TUF GT501 Case | Vizio 4K 50'' HDR

Well that was a lot of reading to catch up... did everyone actually reach a conclusion about everything or did we just give up and move on? :P

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
