why not just ship retail boards with that software, longevity?

Those bios probably aren't the most stable for every card, MSI and Asus probably test the card to make sure they can take the extra Mhz and then send them to reviewers

This would be impossible to do with every card, hence they dont ship with the modded bios.

um... the bios is stable. "OC" mode is just a clock stable clock boost. It's just a thing so install their stupid software. 

 

If the BIOS wasn't stable then there's no way on earth nvidia would allow the card to ship

Well I wouldn't be surprised if they were sending chery picked card to reviewers like LinusTech and JayzTwoCents etc.

It's called marketing

I think you misunderstood what I am saying

MSI are sending modded bios cards to a handful of reviewers, they can hand check if those cards can hold the increased Mhz.
They aren't doing this for retail boards because I said, they will not check every single card for an extra 1% performance increase.

The retail card ships with the "modded" bios as a separate profile which the user can activate. 

 

Unfortunately that stupid gaming app needs to be installed. Instead of a physical BIOS switch like everybody else.

They are available as downloads, so not like they are not "available"...

One thing that this article didn't mention is that the latest version of Gaming App is still not available to the consumer who already purchased these cards and so they don't even HAVE access to the OC button. I am not too happy either about this change in BIOS for retail cards vs the ones we were shipped. I've already reached out to MSI for comment, but since the GPU team is based on the other side of the globe, it will take some time to get a response.
