[Videocardz] First RX 480/470 3DMark Scores

3 minutes ago, i_build_nanosuits said:

it was announced a while ago...this arcticle for example date from May 31st...so over 2 weeks ago mate!

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10389/amd-teases-radeon-rx-480-launching-june-29th-for-199

I mean the rx 470 btw, sorry for not making that clear.

The benchmarks of the rx 480 are plausible and this one might be correct but the fact they also release rx 470 benchmarks makes me wonder if any of them are real because it's very unlikely the rx 470 is already shipped out to reviewers.

When they announced it yesterday it didn't have a cooler sooo i think they still have to do some work on that, which makes sense because their proirity should be the rx 480.

You also expect a nice cooled 1070 for 379 dollars? You will probably be run something like 400 dollars, we are seeing a lot of blower coolers for the 379 price point.

Plus assuming these results are representative we are getting 24.82 points per dollar from the RX 480 compared to 21.97 points per dollar from the GTX 1070.

Not to mention that for slightly more than a 1070's price you can get 2 480s and get 1080 performance.

Cooler is the least of their concerns - the 470 likely has a similar one to the 480 and the 460 is apparently so efficient it barely needs a fan.

Wow the GTX 1070 is sooo worth the extra 100$ right there...and it support all the cool extra nvidia tech.

It is, but apart from slightly less crippled performance with gameworks all other stuff it's either on AMD too or not directly impacting games.

Besides the best feature,  variable refresh rate tech, it's waaaay cheaper on AMD. That is currently what stops me from grabbing a 1070: for the same price as the founders I can grab a 480 AND a freesync 1080p monitor.

There's no Nvidia answer to that.

Yea probably but the fact there isn't one is a sign they are still figuring stuff out.

maybe they are trying to make the cooler as long as the gpu and not a lot longer like the 480 cooler is. Who knows...

About the 460, that was a bit of a suprise for me the cooler is that damn small.

But that card also doesn't have a 6-pin connector so it's probably not a complete suprise.

I like the penis extension on the 480 - if the fan has holes on both sides that makes the intake much better

True - or buy 2x 480s for the price of a 1070 - MUCH better value

CF scales quite well so you can easily get superior performance than the 1070

Personally i also like the rx 480 cooler, it looks good and i'm actually wondering now how much those holes on the pcb side or however you want to call that side actually help with cooling.

Let's hope the cooler performs decent.

It probably will - a 135W GPU man. How hard can it be.

Honestly, no idea! I have 2 gpu's with 1 6-pin connector and both make noise like hell because the cooler is crap soo yea...

Expectations for me are probably lower than they should be but whatever, let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

yeah but what about VR? and simultaneous multi-projection?

or last gen tech that AMD hasn't managed to get yet?

like VXGI? shadowplay? physX? MFAA?

or even Ansel? that looks pretty cool to me...

i do understand that Gsync is expensive though, my monitor cost me 950$CAD 3 months ago...but it's amazing.

Are they holes? I thought it was a short pcb with the fan mounted at the end like those Asus turbo 960s and 970s

I hope other benchmarks will show these scores to be lower than normal. Otherwise, I don't see the Polaris lineup as graphics cards for this generation, but as graphics cards for the previous generation, since the best of them is less-performing than the non-ti GTX 900 series, which is now a finished gen. And AMD's stating that they think these cards will be good for 3 years? I certainly hope that game graphics will achieve more progress over the next 3 years than a GTX 980 could handle at 1080p, max settings.

Still, it's good performance-per-cost value.

you really think a nice cooled well built aftermarket RX 480 will be 199$?!

no, a sapphire nitro for example will probably be more like 249$...and there will soon be 3rd party GTX 1070 that will go for around 359$ to 379$...it's well worth the extra investment at this point to get a MUCH better graphics card IMHO.

You mean the fact that the RX 480 is VR ready? Or that PhysX isn't being widely used?

As for Shadowplay and Ansel, OBS is an option and I can't comment on Ansel yet as Maxwell doesn't get it

What are you basing this off? This is one of the largest generational gaps in performance ever... ~60% performance increase between a new card and its predecessor.

Sure, you might still be able to run some games on high at 1080p, but:

1) Poor graphics in a game is on the developer, not AMD and Nvidia

2) If you think you're on the cutting edge of gaming technology at 1080p right now, you are misinformed.

Atm i have an MSI HD7770, it's really quiet now but when i'm gaming it's stupidly loud, the issue isn't the case btw, i changed that recently to a silencio 550 and it's still terrible.

Oh yea i just remember i also had an asus 9800 GT with a 6-pin, that one was quiet even when i OC'd the sh*t out of it and temps were perfectly fine weirdly...

None of them were reference designs btw, all of them were AIB coolers.

the GTX 1070 and 1080 will particularly shine in VR because they support simultaneous multi-projection which allow to render two different viewports with a single geometry pass...and this is also amazing for people with 3 monitors for example.

PhysX has been implemented in many games over the years and it's generaly a great feature and more games will come that will feature physX.

Shadowplay is amazing and Ansel will be incredible...OBS is garbage and heavy and buggy.

True but the thing is that the fan itself isn't above the pcb it next to it, there's no pcb underneath the fan itself, just plastic, and it has holes in it so the fan can take in air from both sides.

It's very clear on this pic what i mean because pictures tell more than words can sooo...

I think the coolers just can't handle the heat properly.

The msi goes over 70% fan speed so it does have to work really hard sometimes, and i haven't even overclocked it even tho i actually want to do that but sadly the noise is just too much already...
