Should I upgrade to a GTX 1080?

Hey guys, so I'm really tempted to buy the 1080 but I'm not too sure and I do have some questions about the different versions.

Ok, so to start off I have 2x 780ti and I game at 1440p. Honestly, the performance isn't too great (atleast thats what I think) and my cards run very hot. One of them idles at 50 C. Also I know the 3GB VRAM must come to play when gaming on 1440p which is not very good.

I originally wanted to wait for the 1080Ti but I'm not sure If I want to wait a year. I'm looking at EVGA's 1080s.

if i was you,i'd wait for AMD's 8GB 480,they're bound to have less heat problems. it's probably going to run at $230 afaik.

but,that's just me.

You would probably need 2x cards and deal with multi-card problems in games.

I dont think a $230 card will match performance with a $600 one

Judging by benchmarks, it wouldn't get you a huge performance boost (assuming that a 780ti is roughly similar to a 980), unless the game doesn't support SLI. You'd essentially be replacing your two cards with one marginally more powerful card that won't get held back by VRAM. It will consume a ton less power though and will fix your heat problems too.

Honestly that might be a better solution as two card together is still inferior to 1 card and also produces less heat. Although the marginal performance increase still is what makes me a little skeptical. I dont know, maybe i'd sli again with the 1080's later on

If I were you and wanted a card now I would just get a good 980. But you would be better off waiting for more 1080 models to come out and for prices to settle.

2x 780ti is better than a single 980. I want the best performance when gaming on 1440p.

1080 is perfect for 1440p, sell your cards for like $300 and buy a new 1080

and he is right about the 1080 performing far better than a 480

Honestly what problems? I have never had and everyone which is around 23 have never had any sort of problem with multiple cards.

I think your expectations are too high. 780ti SLI should crush 1440p any day of the week (yet you say it's "not very good"), and a 1080 will certainly do the same and more. You basically need to decide if you want to drop $600 for a small bump in performance, less heat, and less power draw. If you SLI your 1080 you need to go 4K or you're wasting your money.

we already know how the 480 performs

and no, its not anywhere close to the 1080

 

 

either way, I dont know why you still mentioned the titan, thats and old card and has nothing to do with performing better or worse

the 1080 is more expensive than the 480 and performs a lot better

the titan is a lot cheaper than the 1080 and performs a lot worse

 

either way, your "perspective" sentence made no sense, you basically just reinforced the point that a cheaper card performs worse than a more expensive card
