What is better, the noctua nh-d15 or the cooler master air maker 8?

TheGreyMandalorian

I believe the Noctua has better cooling power, but these are coolers you'd use for very high overclocks.

If you're going for looks, the Air Maker looks a bit better IMO

Benchmarks wise, MasterAir 8 is better. Just check whether you have enough clearance for RAM.

NH-D15. I was just checking if you were going to buy a huge cooler for a locked chip :P

That's an i7-920... A very old chip. 920 != 6700k

The NH-D15 is the best air cooler on the market, until it gets killed or we find something better.

...the Master Air Maker 8 is not better, btw. Like many things Cooler Master, the nameplate blinds some to its shortcomings.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

either way, the d14/15 at under $85USD vs the m8 at $120 is not the value. need the looks then that $35 does it for you, personally, the d14/15 is the better value, longer proven track record, and resales very well if selling later on.

Oh, I know.

i7-920 TDP is 130W.

i7-6700K TDP is 91W.

Now tell me which one generates more heat.

The Phanteks TC14PE is $75 (before $10 MIR) and comes in black, blue and red variants.

It's less about generating heat and more about the die positioning since some coolers can perform better on certain cpus due to the shape of the mounting surface.

Realistically, the degree or two of difference in temperature between the Noctua NH-D15 and the CM Master Air Maker 8 is negligible, to the point where there is really no difference between the two. In different tests for cooling performance, on most websites, the two coolers trade blows, where there is essentially no difference in cooling performance from the two. However, what is quite notable is the difference in price between the two. The master air maker 8 is significantly more expensive than the noctua, so I would say get the noctua.

They both perform equally for a 6700k. The heat output for this chip is low enough that both coolers are actually overkill, but that's a good thing actually since they will be pretty quiet.

One thing is certain though. The Noctua has the better fans for sure. Cooler Master fans tend to click, rattle or vibrate to variing degrees...

Can't really recommend the Cooler Master because of the fans. I'd go with a Noctua although there are some alternatives with equally good fans from Phanteks or Thermalright out there.
