Radeon X9 480 vs GTX 1070

Hello everyone, 

I am new to PC gaming and plan on making a rig around 750$, however, I would like to get an above average GPU. In your opinion is the Radeon 480 or the GTX 1070 better?

It's hard to answer because they are not out yet, however, I would probably say Rx 480. This is purely speculation and my opinion however.

The GTX 1070 is better, but the RX 480 is probably a lot better value per performance. Also, we don't yet know how well the average RX 480 can be overclocked, though AMD said they will be leaving ample room for partner board companies to overclock them. It could be that the RX 480 is as fast as a stock 1070, if overclocked well.

The RX isn't out yet. But, if prices are anything to serve as a base, one GPU is going for 200$, the other for 400$.

 

I'll leave you to guess as to which is "better", as far as raw performance goes.

at that budget, 480. if you got a 1070, youd have a hard time getting the rest of the components for just $350, and end up with a very heavy cpu bottleneck

First ask yourself, what resolution are you planning to game on... 1080p or higher? Your budget is very limited indeed, so I reckon you will be limited to 1080p gaming anyway.

 

For this I'd stick to the RX480 (4GB) at roughly $200 and buy a good Freesync monitor to go with it, then the rest go as high as you can.

Make sure you pair it with a proper CPU that won't bottleneck the performance, at least not heavily.

get the 1070 if you can as later you could slo but doesnt sound like you have the money so id just do the same plan but with the 480's.

I saw some leaks for that card, but it was kinda close to GTX 1070 performance, that's why I was surprised when you said that RX 480 is almost half performance of the GTX 1070. So you need 2x RX 480 to compare with GTX 1070?

the 480s in CFX are about 1080 performance

except that benchmark was in AOTS which everyone knows performs like crap on nvidia

so i would expect two 480s be less than a 1080 (in regular games) which would be slightly more than a 1070

so each one would be about 50% 1070 performance or a bit more

which for half the price is pretty good

Okay that's true, but they also said that those 2 GPUs were at 51% load when comparing to GTX 1080.

I know AOTS is crap for nvidia, but they are marketing that RX 480 perfromance as it would be much more powerfull.

 

I just don't get it ... If 2 of those cards in crossfire were at 51% load, why didn't they use single RX 480 (that would be at 100% load), and get same results?

And picture/video quality on that comparsion video cleary shows that Nvidia is displaying much better. At least it seems much better

 

And when you take all those facts together, you are just confused and don't know what to belive anymore lol
