the July 29(?!?!) availability with the price point, shows that AMD was pushed into a corner and had to launch whatever they had - they were not prepared

my own expectation of RX480 of being better than 280X and 380X were not far off

so if i understand correcty... they said... CF 480.. outperforms a single 1080... for half the price of a 1080.... but only if amd makes good enough drivers....idk... if i want to put my money on a crossfire setup.... good job amd i cant decide now...

That benchmark shouldn't be used to base any judgment. It was skewed by design.

If you go look at 26/5/16 @22:32 you'll see the CF 480s (Crazy preset) and more 1080 benches above it

 

EDIT - although these might not be right because I can't seem to find anything that matches what was shown in the stream for both cards

Those look a lot more reliable and more importantly the double 480 setup performs around the 1080 in the Crazy preset. It's hard to imagine AMD would to as far as to fuck with ashes' bench logs considering how bad they were at portraying the bench.

Yeah it seems about right - the 480s got a score of 5000 on Crazy and the 1080 varied between *4700 and 5100 so it makes sense. Looks like what they showed us though was a little strange though to say the least

judging by Pascal relation to Maxwell v2, a GTX1060 will be in the same perf range

 

if nVidia has any sense, they will release the 1060 with ~200$+ price point within the next 2-3 weeks

Alright, these are the two relevant ashes benchmarks I could dig out from the RadeonDemo profile. As you can see they used a 5930K.

 

Crazy 1440p, GTX 1080

 

Crazy 1440p, RX 480 x2 on DX12's multi-GPU protocol that isn't crossfire.
