I use common sense, works great!

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Common sense would be sufficient if OS exploits didn't exist.

Please someone tell me why relying on Defender is bad. I only have had malware when I downloaded something I knew was bad. And Defender notified me immediately. They update the definitions daily as well.

I use bitdefender, but am completely fed up with a bug which continues downloads in the background (of stuff like youtube videos I'm watching) even when I close the browser. I know it is bitdefender because when I kill it it stops, and I have an open bug ticket but they haven't resolved it yet. When my license expires next year, if the issue isn't fixed I will stop using bitdefender and use something like avast or AVG. Unfortunately, I like bitdefender, but this is a deal breaking issue. I still think an antivirus is essential for a computer to protect you from any number of things that could happen to it, many of which are beyond your control.

I use Comodo and really like it.

It can be sometimes annoying with it popping up for everything you do, but it gives me sense of security.

I guess nowdays an AV is kind of a must have. Better safe than sorry.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Recently (about 3 months ago) I did a fresh Windows install, I was meant to install AVG but forgot, and I've got by just fine without it ... So far I haven't needed it at all, so I haven't got it. :P

Antivirus notifications/system resources are a non-issue so long as you select the appropriate antivirus. Avast typically beats the other free AVs in regards to protection and using less resources, though there are better paid options.

Common sense is great, but it won't protect you from everything, because not everything requires a mistake on your part to get through.

I use Comodo end point security, Running on my redhat server. I've not had great experience with client side antivirus.

I do not.

I've spent the better part of the last 8 years installing and uninstalling AV. I have never run into a virus on any of my personal machines. I do on the other hand run a malware scan every couple months because you're more likely to encounter that than a virus now a days.
