AMD Polaris Tech Day is Today

This benchmark shows the 1080 having a bigger delta in performance vs the Titan X in DX12 games than it does in DX11 games, so that claim that it's Maxwell shrunk sounds pretty dubious.

Not saying it's just a shrink, I'm saying it's a modded Maxwell with little improvements in IPC. Not saying there aren't any.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

The 1070 comes up for sale in exactly two weeks, at which time AMD is going to have to slash prices on everything. If it's taking this long for them to get their cards out you can't help but think there is some fire behind the smoke we have been seeing about them having trouble with their clockspeeds. I was expecting a real response from them, maybe even a hard launch on June 1st at their Computex presentation. I think a July launch will be devastating for them. They need Polaris out ASAP before they have to compete with GP106 in the midrange, they needed a reason to make people not want to jump on the GTX 1070.

Do we even have an announcement date on GP106? Polaris will come first, otherwise we would know.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

It's safe to assume that Polaris would be quite competitive with GP106. It all hinges on pricing.

The way I'm predicting it will go, P11 < GP106 < P10 but I'd have to look at numbers on GP106

Honestly even though I have been an ATi proponent for a while, I have serious reservations about this new "Won't compete in the high end" strategy. Or whatever they call this highly untimely delay.

Then of course I am asking some semblance of competence and coherence from the fucking AMD PR and Marketing teams: Like trying to pick fly shit out of pepper.

If P11 is priced lower than GP106, then it won't be a big deal.

The high end vega will probably be great when it comes. e.g. Hawai R9 290 and 290x was also a few months late compared to GTX 780 and original Titan. But over the years it has proved to be the superior architecture.

I agree though the delay is very bad for AMD's bottom line. If people who are in the market for high end GPUs or due for upgrades blow their money on Pascal before Vega launches...

Apparently it's GCN 1.0-4.0, not 1.0-1.3 as we know it.

Yes, that's why. It's GCN 1st - 4th generation so it makes sense. Iirc it was on their official slides some time back. Or maybe some site called it that and everyone stuck with it. Don't take my word for granted

I still prefer 1.1-1.3.

Its only been 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 4.0 iirc. Unless amd did some magic and i wasn't aware xD

1.2 is Generation 3 according to AMD documentation and Wiki (it was the third one to be released and the document is called GCN 3). Gen 1 was the "zero one". My logic is that GCN X.0 was taken from GCN Gen X.

They call it GCN 3rd Generation/ Generation 3, not exactly GCN 3. Some peeps just started coming up with their own names for it. No wonder I was confused. Marketing wise, AMD wanted it to be called GCN 1.2.

Market wise I still call it 1.2. Yes, the only place I could see GCN 3 is the documents name and that's it. It's getting really confusing for most people with everyone calling it as they want.

Linus just posted this on Twitter

Might mean AMD is about to release VR potent Polaris GPUs, or just demonstrating some other high end stuff to be released later this year.
