What's the best (Non-APU) equivalent to an A8 7650K within a similar price range?

Hmm thank you I will look into that.

For your country and CPU budget, yeah I think the X4 860K or FX 6300 might be better options.

Both of them don't have an iGPU. The FX 6300 is a little better than the X4 860K...

My little spiel sort of related to the topic but a sort of tl;dr type of deal.

If Zen FX was coming out closer to the end of the summer in North America (August/September) or early fall (September-October) then I would consider going with something from that which would be in the price bracket of the i5 6600K if it had similar gaming performance. Regardless, I think AMD is a decent option for CPUs... Interestingly enough I had an acquaintance suggest I go with an FX 6300, but I planned on going with an i5 6600K. If I was thinking about going with an i3 6100 or G4400, sure an FX 6300 would be on par or surpass the i3 or G4400 but I'm willing to save a bit longer so I can get something that'll be better in the longer run, also I have an Xbox 360 and PS4, it's not like I couldn't play games if I wanted to. It's just not the best platform to play games on even though that's their intention is to be good for gaming. To an extent it's okay but nothing like from what I've seen of PC games.

At the moment in my planned build I've picked out an APU (the A8 7650K).
I was wondering if I could a better performing processor without the inbuilt graphics that I can get for the same price ($155 NZ / $110 US)

Thanks in advance :)

None that you'll be able to overclock, only intel option is a G3258 for less but it's a dual core and you have to disable the igpu to overclock it

In NZD, maybe the Core i3-6100? Its iGPU is weaker but its CPU side of things is far better.

Keep in mind the 7650K costs $90, the i3 6100 is $130.

So no AMD options are worth it then?

Not really until they have something  that's actually new. I love amd but there cpu's are aging poorly right now.

  • AMD Athlon X4 860K

IIRC the X4 860K was basically an A10 7850K with out the iGPU.

That's correct, stronger quad core from the 7850k but no igpu

He isn't in the states, he will most likely be paying new prices

Ah, yeah I forget about the used market being a bad/non-existent option in some places.

EDIT: maybe a fx 6300 then if the cores are needed?

Yeah, New Zealand's too small to have a large second hand market :P
Plus every-body seems to be trying to sell their used stuff at higher than purchase price like wow :P

States, I think because it looks like Newegg has it at $124.99...

Though here's prices of the i3 6100 in US prices from a Google search...

Cheers.

I think I've decided on the Athlon X4 860K
For me the extra 2 cores of the 6300 isn't worth :P
