Honestly, I would hold onto the 980ti for now, give the market a couple months to maybe rebound a little bit from the huge influx of people selling their own cards. Plus the 1080Ti and 1080 Titan are probably just around the corner so you'll regret getting a 1080 in just a few months.

Fucks sake. The 980 Ti is the EXACT SAME in most games as a 1080 (look at TTL's review) and when you OC both the 1080 is 20%-30% ahead at most.

How old is your 980 Ti? If its less than a month, then see if the place you ordered from accepts returns. Otherwise you could sell it on ebay, or just keep it.

The 1080 isnt much of an upgrade over a 980 Ti, the most of the performance increase is due only to how fast the GPU clock speed is. The technical specification isnt any better than a 980 Ti.

You would be best off waiting for the 1080 Ti, or even Volta.

for 1440p its fine. its still one hell of a beast. if your on 4k and on the edge of 60fps you can go for it but otherwise its really not neccessary.

Your best option is to wait for the gtx 1080ti (big pascal) since you're only going to lose value by selling that card now.

Even a single 1080 has been shown to not be able to output 60fps at 4K, most people who I've seen run at 4K get 35 to 45 FPS which is pretty damn good but still a bit shy :(

yeah if you disable aa and tweak the settings a bit your probably able to get it. i would still recommend to go g- or freesync though.

That's true, I was thinking with all settings at or near max but yah tweaking a couple settings down should get you to the 60 FPS mark at 4K no problem.

Everyone needs to watch this video, the GTX 1080 founders edition cant maintain its boost clock in a normal PC case, so much for the importance of 'blowing all the air out of the case', The cards slow down to 1607 Mhz witihin 5 minutes of gaming due to getting too hot.

I'm sure most people purchasing these are putting a water block on it. It's pretty stupid to purchase a reference style blower unless you absolutely have no choice (matx users).

Yes it seems that the reference card will be best suited for putting water blocks on. However people sticking to air need to wait for custom cooled cards that have sufficient cooling to maintain the boost clocks.

I actually disabled boost on my GTX 970 custom bios, 1.28v gived me 1550 Mhz and it stays <85 degrees too on the cheapest fansink cooled card you could get (Gigabyte Windforce OC - only 2 heatpipes), while the G1 version would be at least 10 degrees less as it also has 2 extra heatpipes, which I think are also thicker.

The 1080 isn't really that big an upgrade over the 980ti and the 980ti already has great performance at 1440p. If you have a non reference version of the 980ti the difference becomes becomes even smaller. Keep in mind newer hardware is always coming out and it's virtually impossible to always have the top tier card.

Don't feel bad, I bought my 980 Ti because I've been wanting all year long and finally got it. I'm not a early early adopter so I will be skipping the 1080 until it has HMB2, when it does then I may buy it, other wise no not interested in the 1080. :D

I like playing at 1440p

If you can oc it to 1450 MHz there is 2-3% difference in performance. So if you are able to oc it then you should stick with it and maybe wait for 1080 ti.

So basically:

1080 that manages to run without throttling = 2% better than a factory overclocked 980 Ti

1080 that throttles = 10% worse than factory overclocked 980 Ti

People with 980 Tis dont need to worry, and just have to OC their card if they havnt already (unless its reference cooled).

I'll keep an eye out for any 980 Ti sales in the coming weeks.
