780Ti used to outperform the 290 in basically all games, now it's the other way around.

Nothing is stopping you from installing an old driver and then installing a new driver and seeing if there will be a difference.

Why people go off and say I remember this and remember that, just go out and test it yourself

No, they can't really do that.

Its the other way around in many newer games.

The drivers just matured overtime and got more performance out of it. Furthermore, 290 is GCN 1.1, an architecture that was built for DX12 even before peeps were talking about it(No it does not necessarily mean it will have a damn big performance gain).

still able to revert drivers if new ones make a card perform crap. I remember playing games on my 680 with drivers from the 320 range a month or two ago and only then noticed I needed to upgrade my drivers. didn't make much of a difference in most games but batman worked a bit better.

Let me rephrase that for him, he's basically saying "the 780ti completely destroyed the 290X back in 2013/2014 but  now, instead of the 780ti destroying the 290x in every single scenario (except compute and mining), the 290X is sometimes faster than the 780ti now" :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Not really,  2013 review of infinite, small lead over the 290x

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2013/11/07/nvidia-gtx-780-ti-3gb-review/6

290x beats the 780ti in alien isolation back in 2014

http://www.techspot.com/review/903-alien-isolation-benchmarks/page3.html

They have always traded blows, and still do

the 290x has 4gb or more of VRAM, so sometimes the 780ti hits its limits

Fine, let me rephrase myself, the 780ti mostly beat the 290X back in 2013/2014 but now as of 2016, the 290x is equal or slightly faster than the 780ti in general. Eghhhh...you know what I mean...

Nvidia provides superior support for their products, unlike AMD with their shitty drivers.

That's why 780Ti performs so much better than the 290's these days. While AMD had a spate of broken drivers recently.

Maxwell also does better in DX12 than rebranded Hawaii and silly 3.5GB VRAM on the Fury.

Please be troll :P

Hehe...I think everyone thinks Kepler got boycotted as it started to preform horribly against AMD's cards and Maxwell as both of em got their drivers Matured/more optimised :P. This shows how if AMD can get their driver's team act together, their cards can easily beat Nvidia's equivalent :P
