There's a lot of speculation regarding if these are rebrands, or if they will be based on Polaris Architecture. What do you guys think? I hope they're based on Polaris, as that would mean substantially reduced power consumption, and therefore significantly improved battery life when playing games when not plugged in.

I'm disappointed.

In part, you inability to search this forum for a similar existing post (I would know since I created one).

And also due to the fact that R9 485X is Tonga XT

I did look for existing posts regarding AMD's 400 mobile series, I couldn't find one?

Also, I couldn't find anything that confirms the r9 485 will use Tonga XT

Same specifications, that's why he made the assumption.

It is 256 Bit and comes with 32 compute units. That is how many Tonga XT has.

So? By that logic this generation's BMW 3-series is the same as last gen because it has 4 wheels and an engine up front.

Lets just wait until the things actually arrive until we jump to conclusions shall we?

14nm though - that could mean Tonga XT with double the clockspeed and thus much better performance

AMD like a half a year ago on their Reddit AMA repeated multiple times - there will be no "rebrands" the entire 400 series line will be on GloFo's 14nm FF

But what if its 1 GPU that's used for 9 rebadges across 2 series.......because that's something that can be annoying even if you can overclock the base "model" to the same clocks as the "high end model".

The humble MR HD5650.....which had 8 mobile versions across 2 different generations, and a single desktop version with the highest clock speed.

Lower end mobile chips are like that. The 820M is fucking Fermi and the 750 Ti got rebranded 5-6 times on the mobile side.

Did they have GDDR5 support listed for only the top half of the version list despite being the same damn GPU? (Not that it really matters if your laptop's main system memory is of the same or similar bandwidth-it can spill to system memory if it runs out of vRAM without a hitch)

Basically, the *50 cards get DDR3 and *60 get GDDR5 but the core is the same.

Its still annoying though at times (but using all dedicated vRAM, and 1.3GB dynamic always makes me chuckle when I still see 60fps-slower vRAM=more used even at 1366x768, the FuryX vs 980ti is a good example)
