wait for the benchmarks of both polaris and pascal to come out.  then decide which card suits you best since the new 1080 is faster then 2 980s

Yeah don't buy a video card right now with Nvidias new lineup coming out next month and AMD's soon as well. And like Alexzz_ said the new 1080 is "faster" than 980 SLI, 980ti, and Titan X apparently. AMD's 490x Has also claimed to be faster than a 980ti but there's no telling how much faster it will be or where the Fury cards will stand against Nvidias lineup this time.

Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, 32GB Cosair Vengenace LP 3600mhz, EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra,  Sabrent Rocket 4 1TB NVME SSD, WD Blue SN570 NVME SSD, 4TB Mass storage, EVGA 750W G2, Corsair 270R

Wait for Pascal.

The MG278Q is a freesync monitor and will not be able to utilize that when paried with an Nvidia GPU.

(I love when I'm an expert)

1) The motherboard is waaay overpriced. Get a cheaper Z170 one.

2) Wait for Pascal benchmarks. Nvidia said that the 1080 is better than 980 SLI, so...

3) For the keyboard, that's your personal taste. Get the one which suits your needs best.

You can use any monitor you want even this one. The first few question I forgot in my first answer are:

  • Budget?
  • Location?
  • Purpose?
  • do you already own some of this stuff?

Yes, everything else is great in this build. The PSU might be questionable but I may be getting it confused with another PSU atm. This PC will do great with a 1080 though.

I was getting it confused. That power supply is great.

You can use that Monitor with the 1080 but you can't use the freesync abilties that the monitor has. Freesync is on AMD cards. If you want to go with Nvidia you will need a G-Sync Monitor if you're wanting to use Adaptive Sync technology.

A G-sync 1440p monitor would be optimal, but expensive.

I loaded this page earlier in the day, and when I refreshed it the OPs avatar changed.  Anyhoo.

Main thing is to hold off on gpu purchases until the new gpus launch.  wait one month then return here for answers.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...
