Missing a "maybe" option for some of these.


I have a pretty big love-hate relationship with Linux. Sometimes, it works beautifully and I love it, but other times I do something innocent and suddenly, everything's fucked. That being said, that can happen with Windows and OS X as well, doing something seemingly innocent and bam, everything's fucked.

 

And I've had the Start menu stop working on me on my laptop, but that was resolved by refreshing Windows.

Windows proxy always crashes after i put my pc in sleep mode and i always need to reinstall my network driver :(.

So the crux of this poll is 'If Linux turned into Windows, would you use it?'

 

Also, I have a question about this question:

"5. Should Windows die as you only use it for support for games and programs?"

 

What in the heck else do you think an operating system for other than 'only' to 'support games and programs'?  An OS literally serves no other function other than running software.

I had some issues in the past on Windows 10 Insider Build 14316 that involved some random BSODs. I live a life of an insider in the fast release lane prepared to run into issues in new builds and report them, but this was ridiculous. My only solution was to restore a backup before the update and wait for the next one. Now that 14328 is out, I'm not having any strange issues and I'm loving the new features. Especially the Windows Ink stuff I can use with my Wacom Tablet. If Linux had the support and the features I've come to know and love in Windows 10 insider builds, then it would probably be my daily driver.

just 1 issue, windows 10 helped me install the wrong audio driver

and it was a pain in the bum to diagnose because everything seem to work fine, but no sound `-`

 

and i tried to use mac os once in a coffee shop, cant even find the friggin browser, gave up and would probably never try another OS other than windows lol

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

The biggest thing keeping me from Linux are a few programs that aren't supported or have decent alternatives for Linux. Premier, After Effects and all of the rest of the Adobe suite are necessary and I haven't found a good replacement for a NLE on Linux. I've tried some of the open source/Linux ones, but they just aren't as fleshed out as Adobe (obviously they don't have the bankroll of Adobe). And then for my laptop I need Serato for DJ'ing, and as far as I'm aware there isn't Linux/open source software that can interface with the Rane/Serato hardware.

I am saying windows as is sucks and can be better but it is not just MS fault. There is a collective group of people that could do better and really improve the PC. If we look at Drivers we can see just how bad they have gotten on both sides. AMD has gotten better but still. If someone rewrote and compiled their drivers I guarantee you would see atleast 5% improvements and less just random problems like Nvidia has been having. Linux would be hard as it is so big and open. The free part and customization is amazing but support is what lacks. If windows stopped shoving down my throat to upgrade to windows 10 and windows 10 was better. I wouldn't have a problem but it isn't, and I have problems. Honestly MacOSX is very nice and has more support then Linux in terms of games and is written off UNIX but it is tied to the ecosystem of Apple. I know hackintoshes exist but they are finicky and don't yield as high as performance as Apple has optimized  them. I feel like hardware isn't being utilized to it's full potential due to heavy OSes and bad drivers. Just my 2 cents.

If we look at Drivers we can see just how bad they have gotten on both sides. AMD has gotten better but still. First of all, windows has nothing to do with how good AMD or nvidia drivers are doing

 

Second, windows can be customized just as much as linux, its just that few people bother to do so.

 

Third, "heavy OSes" do you mean how windows literally uses 0% of my CPU and 4% of my ram?

Unless you're "gaming" on a $200 laptop this is not even an argument

Computer performance these days is so high that an OS barely makes an impact

 

Fourth, windows 10 is better than 7 in pretty much every way

Of course there are always people who will have issues because they are too lazy to clean install, thats their fault, not the OS

The rest of the people who hate windows 10 are just people who complain because they have nothing else to do, or they are the type of person who hates change (eg. an old person)

 

Same type of people who complained about windows 7 when it came out

Same type of people who complained about windows xp when it came out

 

If you want to use linux then go ahead, there's no need to start flame wars by saying "windows should die" because of your "2 cents"

Part of the reason why I think linux sucks is because of people like you, and the rest of the linux community

My only issue with Windows(10), is that it keeps resetting my default programs for certain files, mainly Media and PDF. Other than that, I haven't had a single issue with Windows 7 or with Windows 10 since I upgraded on day 1.

 

I would also gladly switch over the Linux if all games were released on it. I wouldn't even mind if Microsoft released a paid, proprietary type of "software" that you can install on any Linux distro, in order to natively run windows applications and games. Kind of like WINE, except good.

  2. Would possibly use OS X again.
  3. I encountered some multi-monitor annoyances with Windows, one of which was snapping to the middle edges when trying to drag a window across.
  4. Probably wouldn't switch operating systems for a single game.
  5. I don't think it should die because then our options would be really limited.

Question 3, I feel like could use a "sort of". 

I have had some issues with Windows in the past year but I'm not sure those are Windows problems but rather drivers not having a good day. (BSODs a few times a month)

 

I suppose I don't want it to die, I just want it to not be the only option.
OS X is limited to Apple devices and will probably always be. 
Linux currently still lacks game support, and I like Ubuntu. Though Windows and OS X are way more polished than Ubuntu.
