AMD HYPE TRAIN

i cannot wait for all the new AMD stuff coming out this year! it has been far too long since we got a good full set of AMD hardware. the last time we got a good full set of hardware was back in 2012 with the FX 8350 and 7970 ghz. i would love for my next workstation to be all amd once again. right now it has a 5820k and 2x 980 tis. the zen and polaris hardware look like they will both be a lot more efficient and powerful. are you as hyped as i am? what's your standing on an all AMD build becoming a viable high-end option once again? are you blue/green team?

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

You know?

I've learned not to get hyped for anything. Everything I've been hyped for has been a colossal disaster, and subsequently left me angry.

I see something like AMD's new zen and polaris, and while I can appreciate the value if it turns out well, refuse to allow myself to get hyped.

That's life, hopes and dreams aren't reality. Hopefully we can all one day get our hype to reality dream real.... If that makes sense.

I'll just buy whatever happens to perform the best, and what has the best features. This is not AMD in their current state. Hopefully though, it will be.

*Shrugs* I like the idea of both of my CPU and GPU being from the same company. I think there is an advantage to it, but that's probably a rumor.

No advantage at all, AMD/Intel, AMD/Nvidia, Intel/Nvidia
it all comes down the specific hardware itself and how software is optimized, very little if any software is optimized in such a way that having hardware from the same vendor would make any difference

At the end of the day, the CPU and GPU are tools made by some companies, it should fit your needs and budget and thats it

The brand loyalty thing is really only a negative, and the person it hurts the most is the loyal person who is potentially limiting their performance by backing the wrong side (whoever that may be)

it would be like refusing to buy the metal shovel to use the paper one because its from a brand you like

To be fair, people have reported AMD/Nvidia being marginally better than AMD/AMD due to less driver overhead.
