What's with the lack of 4K uploads on LTT lately

ItsDakotaList

Anyone notice this? Ever since the LTT themed build log they have only been in 1080p.

but i didnt notice because im a peasant running on 1080p

Me too actually, but I enjoy the higher bitrate of Youtube 4K, and can still notice the difference, even on my 1080p monitor.

LTT are adamant that downscaled 1080p looks the same as 4k so just do everything at 4k I guess

Because recording 4K raw footage will eat up storage. It's better to record at a lower resolution then up scale the video to whatever you want. For myself I record 1080p and upscale because my CPU cannot handle the high bitrate and higher resolution. That is why I need to get a new CPU. Which will be soon. :)

I definitely noticed. I love watching their videos on my QHD monitor because they are one of the only channels I follow that provides content at that resolution (the other being Hardware Canucks). I really hope they start uploading at 2 and 4k again soon

Probably isn't worth the extra workflow. It takes up way more space and time to render, for only a tiny tiny fraction of people that can even watch it.  It's probably less than 0.01%

Right, but I would be fine with them just uploading their 1080p videos in 4K, as YouTube 1080p has such a low bitrate, and YouTube 4K has a much higher bitrate.

I've only noticed it on their trade show videos so far (Is it on non-trade show videos too?). My assumption for this was that since they are at a trade show they don't have their full-fledged editing workstations/server and 4K would take too much processing time / storage to upload videos in a timely manner.
