Have you listened to a mechanical keyboard? They are not quiet.

Clicky, Tactile, and Linear switches are all slightly different degrees of loud.

If you want a quiet mechanical keyboard you need to replace the included switches with aftermarket silenced switches like the Cherry MX Silent Red, Gazzew Bobagum, Outemu Honey Peach, etc.

I've never heard of a clangy keyboard before. That would imply you're smacking together metal things.

Clicky keyboards are not exclusive to cheap or expensive keyboards. They are a switch type you can choose to get any price point.

That does not help us help you if you don't tell us what models you looked at.

Well, most important bit is that it does support hotswap switches, so you will be able to exchange them should they turn out too loud.

I would encourage you to go into a big store and look at the mechanical boards they have there and listen for yourself. Cheap boards might sound hollow or rattle a lot, but they are not necessarily louder than more expensive ones.

There are bunch of sound tests on YT, but it is hard to judge how loud they really are without having some good reference. A lot of factors go into the recording and how it is reproduced on your end, so the real life experience can differ significantly.
