I tend to get some computer things for free like I have gotten in total a monitor, all but 3 of my keyboards, 2 sticks of 2gb ddr2 ram, a 2.2ghz core 2 duo, and a couple computer mice for free. All these parts were either given to me for free or I found them somewhere in the trash or a junk pile. I wanted to hear some of the crazy gifts or crazy finds some of you guys got.

I was walking in the streets of Manhattan with my cousin. We found a crappy Compaq case in the garbage and decided to see what was inside. It was quite a gem to see a Intel 1155 gaming motherboard, a core i7 2600, a 120gb ssd, and 4 gigs of RAM (all in the year 2012, when those parts were very expensive). Im still running the same cpu but my cousin took the ssd. Without that find i would still have a shitty hp with a AMD sempron.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

I have a pentium dual core lga 775 pc that I bought from a friend for $5 that was missing a hdd and a gpu and had a broken cpu fan that I fixed up with parts I already had. the USPS was even nice enough to fully refund me after they damaged the  cpu cooler I ordered to replace the broken one and even though the USPS damaged the cpu cooler it still worked so I just ploped it into the machine anyway

the machine now has a core 2 duo 3.0 ghz 6gb of ram, 200gb harddrive and a nvidia geforce gt 720 gpu and it even still has the broken cpu cooler that still works 4 months later

I got a 900p monitor free from a friend of mine and 1080p tv free from him, the tv has one little blue line in it that shows up when it is cold but once it warms up enough or if it is warm in the room it won't be there. I also got a perfectly good working appeared to be new cooler master 450 watt psu for 5 bux from a thrift store, it is in my wife's pc now.

friend gave me his months old 7970 Ghz, he said he wasn't working for him, PC wasn't booting and all.
Works perfectly for me.

Other than that, I get my fair share of old computer parts whenever someone bring me their old PC and I tell the how much it would cost to repair them... which is not worth it 90% of the time so they just leave their PC here and order a new one/buy a used one that's as good or better than what they had for the price of repairing their old PC.

What's with you people actually finding good shit! >_>

All the things I've found are probably worth a couple bucks new lol

  • Various cables for monitors (VGA, DVI, Power cables, etc.)
  • USB AC Adapters
  • Headphones (if they're earbuds = garbage, if not = super cleaning)

I once found an Iphone 5s coming into class and was all for keeping it but I after a second holding it was thinking -as a poor college student-  "what if is was my phone?" and looked for the owner. I asked them to confirm the # to prove they at least knew the owner. Fortunately the owner was hawt, unfortunately I didn't get a reward :/

Kek. I know someone who "Upgraded" from an Acer V3 laptop with a Ivy-bridge i5 to a 2007 Macbook. They are still usable for people who want them to be usable.

i know but they were all from a school so they had so much software built in to prevent access from things it took hours to get into the admin profile to wipe one of them.
