Microsoft Cross Platform Gaming Fail

BastardCookies

They managed to butcher the windows store version of rise of the tomb  raider which was quite disappointing. Microsoft can make great products but their marketing is trash.

triple A games on windows store still have a lot of work to be done

they have already fixed SLI and CFX not working

they are currently working on vsync

then after that they will keep improving stuff

this isnt an overnight job, its going to take years to get windows store working great so that people actually stop complaining, but theyre making progress

Microsoft would save so much trouble -both in public image and background support work- if they just used another party like Steam.

Game doesn't run properly? Blame the other guy lol

Enderman, here's what I don't understand. Why are these issues at all? Does RoTR have the same issues on other platforms, like Steam? If not, why would you release software that bugged? Not being able to disable vsync is a huge thing to me. Same with not being able to hook fraps into it. My preferred way of configuring a game is to start fraps and tinker with the settings until I've got them as high as they'll go while maintaining 50+fps. If I can't use fraps it screws my whole method. It's tinker til it looks bad, then tinker some more, without having any decent way to quantify the effect the changes are having on the output. It also screws up code injection. There's times where I enjoy putting on some cheats like god mode and infinite ammo and just killing thousands of things on single player horde mode. It's a great way to blow off steam. The same goes for benchmarking. Why leave it in the hands of the companies making the game? Rather than being able to hook into the program and read quantitative data that is easily compared you're stuck with whatever they decide to throw in. It's not that they're releasing their own games that have issues. They're taking games released on other platforms that don't have issues and borking them. It's horrible business sense, especially for games that have other PC release sources, like Steam. It seems they're trying to attract gamers from Steam and other platforms with the promise of more integrated gaming. Unfortunately that requires buying more hardware. It's a lot cheaper to buy a 50' HDMI cable and use Steam big picture mode than to buy an Xbox One. Also, why should people have to complain to get the same features through the Windows Store that they get through other platforms? Until they get the vsync issue fixed everyone who went and bought a quite expensive Gsync monitor can't use it. Well, they can use the monitor, but Gsync won't work. Pretty sure the same holds true for Freesync as well. I don't understand how they thought it was a good idea to release it in this state.

Microsoft should just use Steam

i'd rather brand my dick than continue to use Steam.

Don't fail me now as i've failed you then.
