Box Hoarders?

So I just watched a video from AwesomeSauce about the different types of PC Enthusiasts... I fit the "hoarder" and during that part my girlfriend pointed at me and said "you" and then started pestering me asking me for a good reason I have for keeping the boxes. I have the boxes to anything I buy over $120 or so, so that includes my Blue Yeti Box, Ultra Wide monitor box, MOBO box, CPU cooler box (not over $30), my CPU box, PSU box and for a while my case box. Do I need them? I dunno, do I have a good reason to keep them? IDK. I'm curious as to any of your reasons for keeping boxes. 

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

I keep them because they help resell.  A lot of people are real anal about wanting the box and every last thing that came inside it and will try to lowball you for not having it.

 

But.. it doesn't seem to matter in my house.  My wife throws away whatever she doesn't think should be there lol

I keep boxes for when I need to move. The packaging for things like monitors are designed to protect a very expensive and fragile device during shipment. Any internal part I might have to remove to then relocate equipment I keep the box for.

 

Monitor - Yep

Case Box - Yep

Video Card - Yep (gets pulled prior to moving case)

CPU Cooler - Yep (it's big and heavy and has to be removed from the case)

SSD Drive - Nope

Mouse - Nope

Ram - Nope

 

You get the idea. Also all of the boxes I do keep are then stored inside larger boxes. Video Card box along with a bunch of other boxes all live inside my case box. At the end of the day I'm not displaying them and it keeps everything contained. I have very limited storage space in my house (Japan does not do storage space well in small apartments) but I can easily justify saving 2 large boxes in a closet.

 

Advice: Keep what you absolutely need. Consolidate them into larger boxes to cut down on clutter.

Listen here buttmunch I asked for a reason and you said "I don't know, I just want them" which IS NOT A REASON MY LOVELY BOYFRIEND. Give me a good one and I won't bother you about it ever again (provided they aren't in my way.)

P.s. displaying them doesn't count. If you think its got a cool design cut that part out and stick it to the wall. displaying empty boxes just looks freakin stupid.

I have almost every box for the PC components and accessories I've bought.

I don't sell my used components, but I do usually give them to friends and family who can use them and I like to have all the documentation and such for them and it makes transporting it much easier.

 

I just upgraded my 2500k/Z77 mobo to 5820k/X99 and it was nice to be able to pull out my old motherboard box and have all the documentation, anti static bag, padding and what not.

I will most likely ship it to one of my friends out of state and I'll feel better shipping it in the original box than anything I'd be able to come up with.

I keep the boxes for major components.  

Having the boxes can help with resale, moving, and returns/rma.  

That being said I have the space for them.  If I didn't I would only keep boxes until return or rma period is over.

Here are a few reasons I keep my boxes:

 

-Display pieces - Call it corny, but I like the look of my boxes. I keep it minimalist though.

-Storage - I store extra hardware and stuff in my PSU box

-Re-sale - I imagine I'd get just a -little- bit more if I have the box

-Shipping - If I ever sell a part online, shipping it in it's original box will be the safest way to get there, since it's made for that part.

Jesus that's a lot! I understand the ROG box I mean I still have the box to my Macbook from 2008, I can see myself getting rid of the boxes I have... in the event I build a whole new system.

2. Everything else is worthless crap once it is past warranty. 

3. Just about everything within warranty but past in-store return is also crap. 

 

I guess it looks cool... I'm the guy who kept every new energy drink bottle/can as a collection (so, I'm not saying its wrong to keep stuff like that). But believe me... in the end it will get thrown away when you realize it really is just a piece of cardboard with pretty colors on it. And your girlfriend/future wife will get rid of it if you don't...likely.
