Should I even upgrade from 3570 to 6600k?

Hello :D

 

I want to build a new computer with i5 6600K and later that year get some GPU from the 1000 series (Nvidia GTX 10xx series).

So should I upgrade to a new PC or stay with the old one and get some upgrades for old system?

 

OLD PC:

- i5 3570 CPU

- MSI GTX 660ti PE GPU

- MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z/GEN3 mobo

- 8gb ram

You'll need a new mobo + RAM to get a skylake CPU, just remember that ...

I'd forget about the CPU for now and upgrade that 660ti as that's whats holding back your PC.

what you need is a new graphics card, this one you have is weak as fuck.

Not worth in my opinion, the 3570 should be more than enough for gaming and you can always just switch out a GPU. So if you buy a nice graphics card next generation you can just reuse it, if you decide to upgrade your CPU/Mobo/Ram.

The performance improvement from Ivy bridge to skylake is a decent amount but not worth upgrading to.

Not really, you should forget the CPU and upgrade your 660Ti.

THIISSS Maybe to an R9 380/390 or something. I was saying to upgrade and overclock if you so wished.

I still have an I7 980 which I think is 6 years old. With that I have SLI GTX 970s. I'd rather keep on upgrading the graphics, plus my mobo can do tri SLI should I ever go insane enough to want that.

New mobo and CPU and ram just still isn't worth the cost.

I ran the 3570k for 3 years, and recently upgraded to 5820k, which is considerably stronger than the 6600k, so I guess my experience is somewhat relevant. I'll say this -- while I am happy to have upgraded, it was a want and not a need. That 3570k is superb, and will serve you well for at least a couple more years

I agree to the lot. Just get another 8 gigs of RAM while DDR3 is still cheap. I wouldn't even write the GTX 660 Ti off quite yet. I'd say you can still play games rather comfortably at 1080p with medium to high settings another year or so.

Heck, even 8GB RAM is already plenty. Just upgrade from the 660ti whenever funds allow. That's the only real issue I see. Even that will run most games fine at 1080p. I used to have the non-Ti version, and it was great until I went to triple monitors.
