B'Bye FX-8350, haswell or Skylake? Hardest decision of my life?

Greetings PC users, as the title says i'm going to ridl my asus motherboard and my FX-8350 to a friend who needs a new pc and i'm going to build it for him, so, the MB and CPU for 200€, I paid 160€ for the cpu and 40/50 for the MB so... yeah it's a friend and he has no idea about computers, and the components only have half-year of life. 

 

I want a new powerfull and efficient Intel. intel i5 cause i'm f***ing poor, so, i know i will have to spend at least 80 or more than the 200 that my friend will give me.

 

I've made a little research and:

 

OPTION 1- SKYLAKE:  Intel Core i5-6500 3.2Ghz    with  Asus H110M-C D3 "I will not upgrade my ram yet"  it cost up to 280€

 

OPTION 2- HASWELL: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2Ghz    with  MSI H81-P33   it cost up to 250€

 

OPTION 3- SKYLAKE:  Intel Core i5-6400 2.7Ghz  with  Asus H110M-C D3 "I will not upgrade my ram yet" it cost up to 218€

 

OPTION 4 -HASWELL: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3Ghz    with  MSI H81-P33  It cost up to 266€

 

-EDIT- i know skylake i the new generation and i would be worth to buy, but i want to know what choice would be the most accurate or if a cheap skylake cpu as 6400 can beat  4590 from haswell generation, Thanks a lot!

 

 

What would you choose if you have to buy one? Do you have some other options to check? I will be very grateful if you post some options in the reply.

SUPPOSEDLY the new cpu's coming out will be supported on x99 (Haswell)

 

 

the more I think about it, there are new ones coming out for skylake as well right?

 

Take this with a grain of salt and look into it on your own :P

The Broadwell- E CPUs which only fit X99 boards. The Skylake E will be on new boards

If you use the DDR3 on Skylake I hope they are 1.35V or else they may harm the CPU over time... :(

He said he's short on money, and the cheapest haswell e chip is $300. And the cheapest board is $150. That's probably too much

Intel said that using memory that uses more then 1.35V may damage the CPU's memory controller over time.

If you can set them to 1.35 volt then you are fine but if not you will harm the IMC slowly over time... :(

If you're dead-set on not getting new RAM, you have to stick with Haswell or prior.  So out of your list, the 4460 or 4590.  I'd personally go with the slightly newer 4460.

If you can set them to 1.35 volt then you are fine but if not you will harm the IMC slowly over time... :(

Thank you! I've been lucky to open this post, well I can change the 8 gb of ram that I have chossen for my frind, for a brand new HyperX Fury Black DDR3L 1.35V, as the news i 've read, ddr3L is better than ddr3, well is necessary, and i will sell to him, my hyperX fury DDR3 1.5V.  With this I could Use a skylake CPU well? or there's something more than intel limits me  :angry:

 

-EDIT- wtf i'm talking about? i can buy a brand new "powerfull" ddr4 RAM, it cost the same, well 5€ more

To those going on about DDR3 damaging the IMC of Skylake over time: DDR3 (that's within JDEC specs) puts less of a strain on the IMC than DDR4. The voltage of the RAM has nothing to do with the IMC as well.

are tooooo expensive. it grows the price up to 359€ (more than 100 than before), so i don't know. i though i will choose a haswell cpu. or i don't know 

 

What if i choose option 3? i would be more powerfull than Fx8350? with this option i can buy the ddr4 ram. Come on what do you think?,

 

Is woth i5 6400 than FX-8350? maybe i open a new topic for this question. thank you guys!

Using DDR3 (not low voltage version) with Skylake isn't something I've heard about or would do myself.  Intel only lists DDR3L and DDR4 as compatible. 

 

Personally I'd steer clear of the 6400 and its very low clock rate.  It will still outperform the 8350 in single-threaded performance, but IMO there are better options for not much more cost.

 

As I see it, you have two options:

 

1.  Sell your current RAM, buy new DDR4 RAM, and go with Skylake (the 6500, or you could save a bit more and go with the i3-6100 which has higher clocks but only 2 cores / 4 threads)

2.  Keep your current RAM, and go with the 4460.

 

In either case you have a nice future upgrade path to locked i7s (e.g. 4790 on Haswell, 6700 on Skylake)

Skylake+DDR3 is pointless with Haswell existing. DDR4 is what makes it good. But without it, the i5 4590 is the most powerful cpu of the 4 options.

Skylake is worth it. Haswell is already almost twice faster than FX let alone skylake.
