Its fine, the fx 8350 is a capable processor but if your budget allows, go for something on the intel side, much better single threaded performance and really noticeable in games.

In modern games that use all 8 threads a 8350 matches an i5 4440

Gonna be a bottleneck. If you havent already bought It, go and buy an i5 Instead, much better. Dont get an old crappy processor on a dying socket.

He will be fine, but theres absolutely NO REASON to get the 8350 over an i5 when youre building a gaming rig. + with the i5 you can upgrade whilst the 8350 Is on a dead socket.

Haswell is also a dead socket

But yeah, since he has the 8350 there's little to no sense in going out and spending 200$+ on an i5 4460

Let me rephrase that. Prices vary and if his are anything like mine than an 8350 is quite a bit cheaper than an i5 4460

A "dead" socket Isnt If there are no more processors coming out on It. It depends on If the processors on the socket are actually relevant. If you can get the 8350 for 140$ whilst the i5 Is 200$ and youre on a tight budget then yes.

In single core performance the 8350 doesent stand a chance against an i5. (generally speaking)

True. It's IPC is lower but the extra modules make up for it in tasks such as streaming, video editing, recording gameplay where you can offload that to 2 cores and use 6 for games whereas the i5 will take a bigger hit if it offloads 2 cores

I find that hard to believe when AMD themselves don't use they own Cpu's when testing their gpu's.

Lower CPU overhead, better Radeon performance, that's just how it is, so that's probably why, they want to show maximum performance of their cards and the FX line while being decent for gaming does not get "all it can" from the GPU

Sure, but if it's just for games I daresay you should go for an 8320 or even a 6300 instead and overclock them a bit.

AMD says its a perfect match I say you can go to 290 if you OC a bit!

i5+cheap mobo. You could use FX8, but assuming that your on budget your not going to have enough money for a decent motherboard for FX and it can have issues as throttling and MB most probably won't last long. @Faceman
