Intel 6700k vs 5960X vs 5820k vs 4970k

I am currently planning a PC build that's mainly for gaming, such as GTA V, CS;Go. I won't be doing ANY video editing, or very minimal one. Which should I get?

If you were doing any productivity, I would say 5820k and overclock it.

If just for gaming, then get an i7-4790k or i7-6700k, what you should get depends on the pricing in your region. Games are starting to benefit from i7s, so I believe if you're building a relatively high end rig, then you should opt for an i7 instead.

That will be one of my next upgrades.

Even 4460 can do good in gaming.

But If you let us know the budget, we can do a better build for the money.

6700k, hyperthreading helps in some games ;)

Also depends on budget.

will in future... not really yet. But yes I'd future proof yourself and go with Hyper Threading. You could go with an older overclockable i7 if you're willing to go with used, I did, saved tons of money and with the OC it performs like a new one ;)

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

Yeah.

OP, actually a 5820k would probably last the longest. 6 Haswell cores, overclockable. Games are already starting to use more cores, and DX12 is supposed to optimize for more threads.

I used to be quite active here.

Your build looks pretty solid. The 6700k will hold it's own for a while I feel if you're using it primarily for gaming. you get nice single threaded performance and ddr4 support. The one thing on your list I would change is probably the psu. That 550 gs is going to be right at its limit even without overclocking. I'd go ahead and grab a 750g2 or 850g2 something along those lines to give yourself a bit of headroom for overclocking and future expansion.

Just gaming 4790k, clocked the same if not higher than the 6700 for less and hyperthreading does help in all games but some more than others

Strictly for gaming, then grab a Core i5 6600K or any other Skylake Core i5s. Want a bit of headroom for the future, a Core i7 6700K or any other Skylake Core i7s. Depending on how much each cpu cost, the 5820K is also great choice. This one gives you 6 cores, more cache, and quad channel ram support. If the price of that 5820K is cheaper than the 6700K, get the 5820K.

Now a lot will start complaining like OMG, why get a 5820K, it's overkill you don't need it, blah blah blah. It's like grabbing them 1000w psu, when you don't need it, but then there is a great deal on it, so why not.

Was your friend complaining he wasted money or are you saying it for him, that he's wasting money?
