Helping someone buy a laptop.

CLP

So I'm helping someone who is not tech savvy buy a laptop, yesterday she told me she was advised by a salesperson that Win10 costs $100 extra and then $100 per year to re-subscribe???

Is this true or is she being BS'ed for extra sale?. The product description says "PRE INSTALLED".

NOW, she might be mistaken and he was talking about Office, to which I know there are free alternatives out there.

Just want to make sure she isn't being taken advantage of and getting up-sold for no reason.

The last time I got a laptop with 8.1 installed it just worked out of the box, but I know the roll-out of Win10 is a different beast.

TIA.

windows 10 is like 130$ retail and it does not have a yearly fee

and any laptop that is sold in a store except the apples has windows preinstalled, so no extra 100$ fee

this. She may be confused with Microsoft, or virus software.

Either scamming or confused themselves with Office 365 as it's around $99 CAD a year.

More than likely they meant Office 365, I hear people confuse Windows with Office far too often in consumer retail spaces.

Edit: whoops, didn't mean to necro the thread. My bad.
