Best Windows OS for low-end PC

Dad recently lent me his rotting PC because my main rig broke. It currently doesn't have a hard drive installed. What Windows OS would be the fastest on this aged hardware?

 

 

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400

NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT

2GB DDR2 RAM, will be upgrading to 4 soon

SATA 2 ? you could still put SSD on it.

 

and you can play games on it aswell, Killing Floor for example

Sorry, no. All the programs and PCs that we use in school are Windows-based.

I've been using with that same config before a month with Windows 10. It went very well.

 

I had E7500, 2GB DDR3, GT610.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

It'll do just fine.

 

Don't worry, there is driver support for 9400GT for Windows 10.

ubuntu is pretty light and run on the lowest end hardware

if you must get windows , get xp

Before 10, what OS was that rig running?

Windows 8.1 Pro.

 

I used the Latest OS at all the time. No problems at all. I'm sure your's can do just as fine as mine.

Win 10 is lighter

7 or 10?

10 is more light on resources.

 

Although for a PC like that i wouldn't run windows anyways.

 

I'd run Linux on it.

Use Wine to run windows apps you need .

Can we please stick to the conditions? Windows only PLEASE. I want to squeeze every drop of juice out of this thing, running WINDOWS. So, which Windows OS, from 7 to 10, would give me the snappiest performance overall?

Windows 10. 

 

I would go through the startup list and kill off any non-essential tasks that don't need to run. Will speed up the boot-up time and keep more system resources free.

if you're insisting on windows 7-10, then run 10. otherwise i suggest winXP. i run xp black edition on my old ass laptop

Do not install Windows! For this cheap of a PC stick to Linux. A good option is Linux Mint (The newest version) with either Cinnamon or MATE. It will utilize the parts better, and you're saving a ton.
