I own two keyboards with this exact feature, hotswapping, already.

Ah, yeah. My b.

I always find it hilarious when big keyboard companies act like they've revolutionized everything by introducing a board with features or switches that have existed in the high-end, custom market for years.

No, because SteelSeries don't own the switch.

I hate that SteelSeries imply that they are the pioneers of the next great switch when they're far from it.

Finished up this build. Finally got my Maxkey Foundation set it in. Might go for an artisan escape key if the right one pops up. Most of the red ones I've seen are gaudy though. DZ60RGB (64 Key Host Swap), KBD 5 Degree, Brass Plate, Zealio V2 78G (soon to be spring swapped to 125G SPRiT), Maxkey Foundation SA caps.

Some switch porn:

"Cherry MX Blue" and "high end keyboard" don't belong in a sentence together. Also, don't buy gaming keyboards, they're overpriced with fairly average build quality and often limit keycap compatibility for no reason.

However, if you'd prefer a decent keyboard with clicky switches, may I suggest the Hexgears Supernova with Kailh Box Whites? Although unfortunately it also seems to have a non-standard bottom row, so watch that if you decide to buy keycaps later.

I wouldn't go with cherry switches.  They're like the Apple of key switches, higher price for lower quality.

If you think you'll want to customize the board later but don't want to build it yourself, I would go with the GMMK, it has fully hotswap switches and a standard layout, and you can get pretty much whichever switches you want.  https://www.pcgamingrace.com/products/gmmk-full-brown-switch  (click "customize your gmmk" to pick the switches and layout.)

Edit: Gateron Blues and Kailh Whites are the clicky ones as you wanted blues

On 9/30/2019 at 4:30 PM, sowon said:

I second the GMMK. While they don't offer Cherry MX Blue, they off the top of my head offer Gateron Blue which is a clone of the Cherry MX Blue. The GMMK also comes with optional keycaps if you want an all-in-one solution.

Thank for all the recommendations I will check them out! Thanks to everyone who responded for all your help!?

Keyswitches are really all down to preference, you should play with whatever keyswitch you are most comfortable playing on.

I own Gateron Blue switches as well as Outemu Blue switches which I used for the past two years so I feel like I have a deep relationship with MX Blues. I am partial to clickbar clickies rather than click jacket MX Blues so I'll try to be impartial with my quick tidbit.

For the average consumer whose options are limited to MX Blues, it's not a bad switch for what it is. For gaming, they aren't particularly helpful as there is a bit of recovery in the reset of the switch which can harm your strafing and quick movements in competitive games.

For typing, it is an excellent switch as the click gives you a great indication of if you've actuated the switch, would highly recommend for typing, unless you're around sound-sensitive people or work in an office environment.

Though I will say, the one tangible advantage that Cherry Blues will give in direct comparison with Reds or Browns is that they are better if you have a habit of resting your fingers kind of heavily on the keyboard when you aren't pressing down.

With reds and browns, this could result in accidental actuation since there isn't any resistance, but again, it's a personal preference thing.

For sure, I use some lubed Gateron Reds temporarily and while I was playing some games, I would move forward if I let my fingers go to sleep for even a second, they're so light.

I joined this club with an affordably priced DSI Multimedia mechanical keyboard with cherry red switches.

My only gripe, and its not a real gripe, is that its a multimedia keyboard so it has sound, play, mute, etc on the left side by CTRL, Shift, Tab so my gaming hands just cannot get used to this new layout.

those layouts drive me nuts, my parents had a laptop like that and I kept hitting the media keys instead of stuff that's normally on the left edge lol

Yeah I really didn't like how it shifted everything to the right. It's impressive for a $20 keyboard because it features real Cherry MX switches (although everyone in the enthusiast community knows by now that Cherry is a marketing strategy rather than actually good) but the biggest problems are the switches are scratchy as hell and the rather odd layout limits keycap compatibility way too much.

But on the bright side, since it's so cheap you can try to replace the switches with better ones with minimal risk. It's not like you're losing a lot if it breaks.
